Backstory

If you don't know what’s happening, then you should probably read this first.  Lina and Doon’s city is called, “The City Of Ember.”  They are in a very dark world.  They are running out of lights and they don't know how to create them because they were created so long ago. They have to find a way out somehow.  So, Doon and Lina try to find a way out.  When they do.  They make it to Earth and realize that, “The City Of Ember,” was just underground! That’s book one.  This is book two.  Written by, “Jainam Patel.” The real author of this is Jeanne Duprau. This is a project from school. :) Enjoy! :)

"What is this?" Mrs. Murdo curiously asks to herself. The note read, "Dear people of Ember,

We came down the river from the pipeworts and found the way to another place, It is green here ad very big. Light comes from the sky. You must follow the instructions in this message and come on the river. Bring food with you. Come as quickly as you can."

"Oh! Lina! Doon! I need to find them! What are these? I think they are the instructions to get out of Ember! I have to tell the mayor! I have to get to the mayor's office!" Excuse me, guard. Guard, Guard, GAURD!"

"Yes madam?"

"I have to talk to the mayor please." "What can be so important that you have to tell the mayor." "A way out of Ember."

"Let me see that, the guard snatches the letter out of the hands.

"Hey!!! It's not polite to just take it from a woman's hand."

"Sorry. Wait, does this say Doon Hawflet and Lina Mayfleet."

"Ya it is."

"Wait they went to the pipeworks. I need to find them."

"They went on the river and have went to another place. They escaped. This is the way out. They probably wrote it before they left. We have to follow these directions to get out. Now can I tell the mayor?"

"Fine go ahead." "Hello Mayor Cole." "Hi. What's your name?"

"Just call me Mrs. Murdo."

"Ok. So why are you here?"

"I have to tell you some thing very important." What? I found the way out of Ember!" "What? Where? How? Tell me everything!" Here. Hands the paper to mayor Cole. "Wait, Doon Hayflet and Lina Mayfleet?" "Ya. They escaped. They actually found the way out in the pipeworks!" "But, it was closed." "That I don't know but, what I do know is, These say the instructions of how to get out."

"Ok. Come meet me at the square. 2:00 tomorrow."

"Ok."

"Ok."THE NEXT DAY...

The square. Alright. Hi mayor. Hi Mrs. Murdo! I'll tell everyone to come here. THE PEOPLE OF EMBER! PLEASE MEAT ME AT THE SQAURE! WE HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! Crowds gathered fast! "Is everyone here?" I think so! There is a note that has the way out! Mrs. Murdo has found it and it is from Doon Hawfleet and Lina Mayfleet. Crowds started whispering. In this letter, has the instructions to get out. We will have to go in the pipeworks, down the river, down a long path and on that trip we will have to go through a lot of obstacles. Who is ready to go? Crowds yelled, they were so happy, that they, started to yell Mrs. Murdo's name! (If you are wondering why, go to page 3.) Ok, Settle down. Go to sleep and have a fine rest. We will start the journey tomorrow! Make sure you pack your food!

The Next Day...

Ok. Ok It's time. Let's all meet at the pipeworks! Ok now go one by one down the river, there should be a door. Open it, and then go in. Ok what do you guys see? I see a weird thing. It says matches. I see something else. It says candles. I think they go together. Give me one. What is this? Mayor cole accidentally dragged it along the wall. Ahhhh! It's on fire!

Mayor cole dropped it in the river.

"Ok that makes fire."

"What happens if we use the fire in this string thingy."

"I don't know", but, i'm not lighting another candle. Mrs. Murdo? Yes. Can you come her please." "Ok. Ya, what do you want? I need to feed Poppy." "Who? It doesn't matter. Light this thing and put it on that string. How? Drag it on the wall and be careful. Wow. It's a movable light! Yes! Mrs. Murdo, YES! Now let's find a way across the river. I found another door! It won't open though! Let me try! Some push Poppy and she grabbed on to the handle and slid across the door! Poppy! ARE YOU OKAY?!?!

"She has opened the door! What is this? It's a BOAT! What's a BOAT? "Try carrying it on over here."

"Okay."

"Now let's see what this can be used for." I think you are supposed to put it on the water. Then you get on. Alright, First, put a candle on every boat. Then, help others. Finally, take the boat to here when your done. Okay, who's going to go first?

"I'll go!"

"Take some people with you so that everyone can go." "Okay." Everyone pair up with at least 3 people." "I need one more person!" "Me too!" "I need 2 more." "I need 1 more." "Settle Down Everyone! You will all get one person.
