George Washington was more than just our president. I think the most important things about him were everything before her served our Country as The President. I wrote this to inform readers of what he went through before presidency.

He is George Washington

George Washington knew what it looked like to be a leader, after years of looking up towards his older brothers. He was the fourth of nine children.
He grew up in Mt.Vernon and always dreamt to explore the forests surrounded by him. But at his young age he wasn't quite ready.
Like most boys his age George loved to fish, swim, and ride horses.

In school, his best subject was math! Writing wasn't his favorite because he was terrible at spelling. But that did't stop him. He knew he was meant to be the worlds best leader!

And he had the perfect teacher to do so. His big brother Lawrence who was 14 years older than him.
Lawrence was in the military fighting for his country. George thought that was the coolest thing! Thanks to his brother, George knew he wanted to serve in the military as well.

Growing up wasn't so easy for George. At age eleven his father passed away.
His family couldn't afford schooling so his older brothers taught him. Although, he did not attend high school or college, he was committed and determined to learn. He would even copy and write the virtues again and again.
At the age of fifteen his mother told him to get a job. Considering he was good at math he became a surveyor. Someone who explored large areas of land to find boundaries.

Then, at sixteen George goes with a wealthy family the Fairfaxes to survey the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley

There were no roads along their journey. But there was something about treading a new path and doing something no one had ever done before that excited George.
The Fairfaxes changed his life. They helped get him work as well as learning many things from them. Such as dancing which he loved. Eating with the Fairfaxes was much different. He was used to eating at home with sticks over a fire. And with them he ate with fine silver and China.

But experiencing these two different worlds ended up being a good thing. George knew how to live among the rich AND poor. He was able to relate to different types of people.
When George got older he joined the military. For his first battle, he was on the British side fighting against the French and Native Americans.
While other fighters were screaming, George went across the battle field trying to keep men calm. He was nearly shot four times!
Sadly, they lost the battle. BUT I became the commander of all the Virginia's fighting forces.

At the age of twenty three, he ran for office to be a member of The House of Virginia's Legislature.
George lost the vote... But that didn't stop him! He ran once again and won! As well as re-election and every time after that.
Did you know that the United States did not exist when George Washington was growing up?
It was only colonies ruled by England and the British King George the third.
Below is a photograph of King George lll

In April 1775, the first shots were fired in Massachusetts in Lexington and Concord. This was known as the "shot heard around the world".
It took eight days for the news of this new American Revolution to reach Washington.
