There once was a dragon named Marc,
who lived in the hidden caves in the
mountains of the Kingdom of Kandy.

The Kingdom of Kandy was a wonderful
place in the middle of Candy Land. The
currency, or money, was candy canes.
The grass was made of strands of jelly
beans, the trees we made of Liquorice
and gummy bears, the flowers were
lollipops, and giant ears of candy corn
grew in the ground.

The people of the Kingdom were always
happy. They had an endless supply of
candy and awesome houses made of
candy that they could eat! Also,
everyone in the Kingdom was friends.
They all loved Marc the dragon.

Marc was a very happy dragon with lots
of friends, and candy that he always
shared. He was the head of the Sharers’
Society, and wrote a book called Marc’s
Manifesto, which is about sharing.

NO!

Can we have some candy, please?
A long long time ago...
But this was not always so. He used to
be a very selfish dragon who would not
share a single thing. Marc was known
as the selfish, mean dragon who had a
heart as cold as a rock. Upon being
asked by his peers if he would share
some of his candy, he refused quite
harshly.

When Marc was a little dragon, his heart
was so cold, he could not even breath
fire. Anything he breathed on would
turn cold. He had no friends and kept
his wealth to himself. His wealth
included candy, gold, puppies, and
rainbows. While his former friends
played outside, he stayed inside. He
was content for a while.

Why should we? You were mean to us.
Can I play with you?

But eventually, Marc got bored of
staying inside and playing with the
puppies, admiring the candy, and
looking at the rainbows. So, he put
everything away and went out to play
with his former peers nearest to his
house. They said, “We don’t want to
play with you because you don’t share
anything with us. You’re no fun. And,
you are very, very mean.”

Marc walked home sadly, his feet
dragging against the ground and his
head hanging down. His eyes were
streaming tears like waterfalls. He
thought to himself, “I want to have
some friends.” But how would he make
some new friends? It would take him
one thousand, eight hundred and
eighteen (1818) years to figure out how
to make friends.

Sharing will give me friends!

Suddenly, he had an epiphany, or sudden idea.
What about sharing? Everyone complained
that he didn’t share enough; perhaps sharing
could make a difference. Also, it could give
Marc the friends he really wanted. Marc grew
up with a very rich family, and was quite rich
when he held a job, but he had not shared
before. He would easily be able to share lunch
with his colleagues. The people most likely to
be his friends were Nicholas and Alexander Jr,
since they were his former classmates, and
were also dragons. Nicholas and Alexander Jr.
already knew each other.
