I would like to dedicate this to all the people out there who have ran track or have participated in any sport and have gotten injured. Your skills diminish over a period of time depending how long you are out and you have to work extra hard to get back and get even better than your previous skill level. That can be challenging and aggravating for an athlete.

On a nice, windy Saturday afternoon on March the 21st the Jesse Owens Track and Field meet commenced at 12 o'clock. The young Travon Milton, who is the fastest on his track team had set several school records in the 100 meter and 200 meter had some competition on today. He had light brown skin and a short cut and stood at 5 foot 11 inches. There were 20 different schools there so this meet would be huge. Travon knew that it was no doubt in his mind he would take first.
Travon was going to race in the 200 meter today and they just gave the first call for it. Travon, with the thought of overconfidence running through his head thought he would be good and that he didn't even need to warm up. He knew he was the fastest one there and had no worries. Before he knew it they were making the final call for his race.
He quickly took off his sweats and ran down to the track. His coach, who was called Scott, asked him if he warmed up in preparation for this and he told him he didn't need to. His coach was very surprised at him and thought he knew better but it was too late to do anything. The coach gave him words of encouragement and he went to the line. The starter held the gun in the air and as soon as the gun went shot he took off.
Racing down the track with the wind blowing past him, the excitement on his face, the cheering of the crowd had him pumped . Going around that curve he was feeling great he had a great start and was in first place. There was no doubt he was going for gold. All of a sudden the moment he crossed the line he felt a slight but sharp sensation of pain in his hamstring.
He started to limp and that limped turned into a fall. He had a painful sensation in is right hamstring and everybody was in shock , his coach ran over to him quick. It hurt him to move so an ambulance was called and Travon was taken to the hospital and his family was notified. The ambulance was tight and cramped. There was medical equipment everywhere and it gave Travon the creeps.
Travon was in a substantial amount of pain. His mom, overly dramatic, comes in crying and asks him if he is alright. He says he's in a lot of pain and she asked how could this even happen. The doctor wanted to know the same thing himself. He knew he should have warmed up but his cockiness got the best of him. He told them and they just reflected on the importance of warming up before his races. He was prescribed pain relievers, was given crutches, and had scheduled appointments with physical therapy.
Travon, sitting in his room that day, was wondering one thing. Why? He was wondering why he made such a careless mistake that could have costed him everything. He was wondering why he got super cocky that day. All he could think about was getting back out there and doing the thing he loved to do the most. The doctor told him it was going to be about 2 months for his total recovery time and when he was done state for track was going to take place. He had to shorten his recovery time in order to make it to state.
The next day was Sunday and that was his first day of physical therapy. As he walked into the place it was a very welcoming and bright atmosphere . Positive attitudes and vibes in the air and the sight of physical therapist helping other injured people made it pleasing for Travon. He signed in and sat down until called on by a physical therapist. He was called to the back and was introduced to Lucy.
She massaged his hamstring and showed him stretches you could do lighten the pain. She gave him advice on activities he could and could not do. That restricted his actions to walking only. He knew he had to comply with these rules in order to get better and that he did.
Travon proceeded on with his everyday life for the next month and a half, he went to school, did his homework and at the end of each school day would always sigh. The thought of not running weighed his heart down when he passed the big crimson track everyday. He would stop by coach Scott's room and talk with him everyday and let him know how his recovery is going. His coach would tell him to just be patient and if you are good things will happen.
After school he went to physical therapy and his therapist Lucy was massaging his hamstring and after that moment when he got up to reach for his crutches he stopped and started to walk without them. Slowly limping but the limp turned into a straight walk. An expression of happiness came over his face. His hamstring felt great and was healed. Lucy seemed shocked because she wasn't expecting this early of a recovery. Lucy saw that he was perfectly fine but she didn't want to risk anything. He got checked out but she told him to sit back for a week and not be extremely active but to incorporate some type of exercise.
If he was good there was no need to come back if he was then he would have no choice but to come back. So Travon left that day and the next week he was moderately active. He would jog on the track for 4 laps slowly everyday until the week ended. At the end of the week he had no signs of pain whatsoever and all he knew now was to get back after it on the track.
He reported to school feeling ecstatic on Monday fresh and energized for practice. All of his teammates were happy to see him back running and in action. He warmed up and got loose. The coach made him start off with a time trial for the 200m to see how much he had fallen off within the past month and a half. He went to the line and when coach blew the whistle his reaction time was slow.
He took off running but something didn't feel right. He felt slower and out of breath going around the turn and into the straight away. Whenever he crossed the line his body felt great but when the coach showed him his time he was highly disappointed . His time had gone up by a second and a half which is a big deal. He started to think that in three weeks he might not reach state.
Travon knew what he had to do. He had to get ready for sectionals and race a good race in order to make it to state. He dedicated everything he had to into his practices. He felt the pressure weighing down on him like an elephant. If he didn't make it to state then none of the big colleges would even look at him. Day after day he saw small results but he wasn't satisfied.
Two weeks later sectionals rolled right around and Travon was facing the top people in his section and was it some fast people. He didn't think he could run a fast enough time to get him to qualify for state if he could run at least 22 seconds or top 3 in his heat he could make it. He heard the first call for the 200 and knew to start warming up and when he final call was made he was ready. As the competitors went to line-up Travon felt something from inside. The starter told everyone to get into their positions. As he said on your mark, get set, when he said go and shot the gun an explosion took place deep with in him and accelerated out of the blocks.
Running down the track he had tremendous acceleration. It was two guys that were right by his side. Christopher Brown and Lamar Smith a couple of his rivals. Christopher who was tall, lanky, and had buttermilk skin and an end kick that was super deadly. Lamar who was a little on the muscular side, very dark ,almost as black as a burnt piece of toast was 3rd at state the previous year. As those three were racing down the home stretch they were about neck and neck it was impossible to see who was in the lead.
