Module 10
FHSU
FALL 2018
Create a digital book describing what augmented reality is, what it does, and it's educational uses in the classroom or workplace. You can gear this assignment towards your classroom or an existing assignment. Here is one teacher's story and ideas on resources you can/should investigate.
Within the same pop-up book, review at least 5 other augmented digital resources that you believe would work well for providing opportunities for teaching and learning.

Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user's environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it.

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented Reality brings 2D/3D graphics to the live environment on many devices.
Unlike virtual reality which allows a user to interact with a simulated environment or one the is recorded.
Augmented reality utilizes a live input and creates virtual scenes and objects inside the live environment.
What can Augmented Reality
do for us?

Resource
In the Ikea app you can virtual try furniture on your patio before purchasing it to check the look and the fit.

Classroom Use
In FCS classes, when designing a model home, students can use these apps to better place items with their room designs.
Resource
In the Pokemon Go app user go on a virtual scavenger hunt to find hidden creatures all over cities. Other similar apps are emerging and could be use in PE classes to increase technology play and movement.

Resource
Some textbook publishers are now integrating AR content within the text to provide additional resources like the picture below from Glencoe Publishing. The book depicted is a Chemistry book.

Resource
In my own classroom we are very luckily to be able to explore the human body with Anatomy 4D using an HP Sprout computer. Anatomy 4D lets the user touch and manipulate the human body by allow the use to remove organs and body systems individual in an immersive environment leveraging the HP Sprout technology.

Integrate AR in to the yearbook to expand coverage. With the power of AR, students can use their smart devices to scan yearbook pages and allow them to come alive over the page. This could allow for a picture to turn into a video or to just expand the page to show more content!
Summation:
AR can add another dimension of coverage to linear text or extend the use of hypermedia into another avenue. The AR can add more content, expand on the current environment, or simple just additional information when scanned and activated. There are many resources that could be leverages for the classroom including: yearbooks, science, physical/kinesthetic movement integration, and product investigation.
