PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Chromium is hard solid that is shiny and can be found in many different pigments. Chromium is a metal that reacts with many things except it does
not react with water.

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHANGES
PHYSICAL CHANGES:
-chromium can be turned into a liquid.
-chromium can be turned into a gas.
-chromium can be broken into pieces.
CHEMICAL CHANGES:
-when it reacts with different things, chromium can change colour.
-when chromium is mixed with oxygen it makes rust.
WHICH FAMILY IS CHROMIUM IN?
Chromium is in the fourth row from the right. This means it is in the "transition metals"
family group.

WHAT STATE IS CHROMIUM IN?
Chromium is a solid. In nature chromium is
found as a metal. It can also be turned into a
liquid or gas.

ATOMIC NUMER AND MASS
Chromium has the atomic number 24. The
number 24 tells us how many protons (positive
charge) and electrons (negative charge) are in one atom of chromium. The atomic mass tells us
the weight of an atom. Atomic mass also helps
find out how many neutrons (no charge) are in
chromium. Chromium has 24 protons, 24
electrons, and usually 28 neutrons.

WHO FOUND CHROMIUM?
A man named Louis Nicolas Vauqelin found
chromium a long time ago in 1798, all by accident. He was working with something called
'siberian red lead', he wanted to take only one
piece of it and put it by itself. Soon enough, it
mixed with the oxygen and he named it
'chromium'. The name "chromium" comes
from the greek word 'chroma', which means
colour, because chromium comes in many
different colours like purple, orange, black,
green and yellow.
