Named the term 'sociology' and is considered to be the founder because he recreated it
-Auguste Comte is the reason that sociology is studied today.

2.He created the sociology theory of 'positivism'

is for Belief
An idea someone thinks is true without proof
-People who go to Christian churches have strong beliefs in God.

1.People believe different things

3.Beliefs are different from facts


is for Conflict

When people do not agree and it ends up causing problems between them
-Conflict could end up with fights between people.

1.There is conflict around the world
2.Conflict can be short or long lasting
3.Conflict can end friendships

is for Deviance

When things or people are different from the rest of the world.
-Hitting another person is an example of deviance.

1.Deviance is found in all ages
2.Deviance can be good or bad depending on the situation
3. Most people in jail were deviant

is for Equality

Equality is when everyone is equal and has the same chances to do things.
-Equality is when people think that boys and girls can both play the same sports like football.
1.There is not equality all over the world
2.People fight for equality everyday
3.Equality can happen if we try


is for Family


Family is a group of people even if they are not related.
-There are lots of different families in the US, for example, some families are made up of children that were adopted, but are still a part of the family.
1.Families are usually made up of a mother and father.
2.People celebrate different holidays with their families.
3.Family is a choice

is for Genetics

Genetics are the traits that you are born with and it makes you you.
-Genetics lets people find out their history and where they come from and that affects behavior.

1.Your genetics come from your mom or dad.
2.Genetics can affect some actions
3.Genetics can show your culture

is for High Culture

High culture is focused on the things that the rich and powerful likes.
-High culture includes celebrities like Meryl Streep and Oprah.
1.Includes expensive paintings and books
2.Mainly only the rich and famous are apart of high culture
3.The Grammys is an example of high culture


is for Identity

Things that people believe makes them different then other. It is what you are.
-No one is the same because they have different identities.
1.A lot of people still do not know their identities.
2.People can steal identities
3.When people get older, they may find new identities


is for Judaism

The religion of the Jewish people
-Judiasm has different practices than Christianity, for example they celebrate Hanukkah.
1.They read the Torah
2.Any one can be a part of Judaism
3.Their symbol is the Star of David


is for Karl Marx

Created the "conflict theory" and said that the poor should take over from the rich
-Karl Marx was named the "Father of Communism"
1.He was born in 1818 in Prussia (now Germany)
2.He died in 1883
3.His ideas caused people rebel

How people communicate
-Language helps people from different cultures speak to each other.

1.More than 6,000 languages
2.People who can speak 2 languages are called bilingual.
3.More and more people know more than one language

is for Morals

Things that help people make decisions between good and bad.
-People who have good morals do not do a lot of bad things.


1.Morals help in life
2.Morals stop you from doing bad things
3.Criminals sometimes do not have good morals
is for Norms

Things that people are expected to act like or follow.
-Norms in the South include calling older people "Ma'am" or "Sir".


1.Norms are different in other countries
2.Norms can change over time
3.Most people follow the norms
is for Observations

Gaining information on others by watching them.
-Observations are important in sociology to get facts.

1.Sociologists used observations to experiment
2.People observe others everyday
3.By observing someone, you can see their behavior

is for Phobia

A big fear of something
-Many people have phobias, like how a lot of people are afraid of spiders or snakes.

1.There are thousands of phobias.
2.Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders
3.Aerophobia is the fear of flying
