This book is dedicated to little Aborginal kids who have a wonder about their names.
This book will explain where their name comes from and how their name can change.

Hi, I'm Fedir! I will be guiding you on an adventure through the story of your name!

Before we get started, we must first discuss what a name is. Although some people have the same name, the meaning of their names may be different.

In Aboriginal culture, a name is something special and should be celebrated. Your name is not just an ordinary name, it has meaning and value and shapes the future person who you will become.

Now, let's get started so you can finally learn about your name!

When you were born, your parents gave you a name, much
like everyone else.

Your name is Ginwaa-Kaline. This translates to 'Tall-Flower'. You will be our tall flower who will always stay standing, even when all the other flowers have fallen.

Your name was most likely chosen by someone special to you.
Like a grandmother or grandfather.

However, as you grow older, you are able to change your name,
as you mature.

Your name can change through a Vision Quest. A Vision Quest
is an adventure of self discovery.

A Vision Quest is where you stay outside during the night.
This brings you closer to nature and everything around you.

When you fall asleep, the nature around you enters your
dream and your dreams are now about nature.

When you wake up, you think back to your dream, this will provide
you with the knowledge of what your new name should be.

I dreamt of a bird soaring through the sky. The Ojibwe word for bird is Binesi. I think I will make this my new name.
