"Humanity is like the fingers on a hand-- each one is different, but we are all connected as one." - The Peace and Love Train

You should always be grateful for life; you never know when somebody, or something, will snatch it away. It was in the middle of the night. A young girl was in her bed when she heard the sound of water. She slowly sat up and looked into the darkness of the room. She reached over, turned on a lamp on a desk next to her bed, then saw that her floor had water all over it. The water was slowly rising, and then, the bed started floating.
Suddenly, Jamey woke up. It was only a dream, a very realistic one. Jamey Willkie Jonathan was a normal young boy. He had friends, he went to school, he played video games, all the usual things that would happen to a kid. What he didn’t know though, is that one of the earth's most passive elements would turn into the most dangerous things he has ever encountered. Jamey was in his bed, shaking with fear.
He had a condition that made him get wild dreams. Sadly, there was no cure for it, but Jamey didn’t really care. Most of the time, the dreams were wild and fun, but other times, they were horrifying and torturing. Jamey looked around, and then checked the floor to see if there was water, luckily, there was none. He gave a sigh of relief, then got out of bed, and got dressed. He went into the kitchen and started getting breakfast, a bagel and milk. He was halfway done with breakfast, when his sister, who snuck up on him from behind, frightened him. “danget Janice! What was that for?” he scolded his little sister, “what? It was just a prank!” his sister giggled back. Jamey facepalmed, then said, “Jane, that’s not a prank, that was a joke.
A prank is like throwing a water balloon at--you know what? I shouldn’t be telling you this!” but Janice already heard it all. “Whatever, just, go wake up mom and dad, will ya?” and Janice scurried off to their parent's bedroom. Janice, or Jane for short, was the sister of Jamey. She was a few years younger, at the age of 11, but is as excited as a 7-year-old. Even though she may be annoying at sometimes, when something gets serious, she will get serious too. Jamey heard his parents' door open, and the sound of bumps and crashes.
Jamey walked over to his parent’s bedroom, looked in, and saw Janice mid-jumping up and down, shaking the two blobs on the bed, trying to wake them up. Jamey didn’t want to be on the wrong side of the bed when they wake up, so he left swiftly, and went back to his breakfast. A few minutes later, he saw his dad carrying Janice upside down on his shoulders. He said jokingly to her, “You want to wake me up like that? I’ll show you!” and kept shaking her upside down, Jane laughing like a madwoman. He then looked at Jamey and said, “I have a feeling that you have something to do with that too?” and Jamey just smiled and shook his head. His mother, on the other hand, wasn’t so happy, she slumped to the kitchen, and reached over to the coffee machine to make her morning Joe.
An hour later, everybody was energized up. Jamey and Janice had their clothes on and got ready for school. Their parents got them in the car and drove to the school. The school itself was like a mini college, it was huge and it held grades from kindergarten to high school. Jamey was in high school, and Janice was in 6th grade. Jamey and Janice hugged their parents and went off to class. Jamey always walked Janice to her class, even if she says that she can do it herself, “jaaaaammmmmmmey? Can I walk to class alone this time? I’m eleven years old! I think I can walk to class by myself.” Janice said.
Jamey felt worried, but then said, “all right little monkey, it seems you turned into a big ape! You can walk to class yourself, go on!” Janice was surprised, but then hugged her brother, and ran off to class. What she didn’t know, is that he was following her, just to make sure she was safe. It was a good idea too, because, right before she got to her class, two high-schoolers went up to her and said, “hey there little kid, what's that you got there?” pointing to her lunchbox. Janice didn’t say anything, so they said, “not a talker....eyy? Well, how about you give us the lunch box then.”
Jamey waited for a teacher or security to do something, but there was nobody around, so he walked right up to the bullies himself and said, “hey, if you want lunch so bad, why not get it yourself? Or, are you just too poor to buy it yourself?” Suddenly, everybody in the hallway looked at them. The first high schooler said, “Oh, now we got a tough guy! Well then tough guy, what you gonna do? Are you gonna stand up for your little friend here? Or, are you're really just a c-c-c-chicken?” That’s when Jamey pushed him, then he pushed Jamey back. It was gonna turn into a full-fledged fight, but one of the security guards went up to them and told them to break it up.
The high schooler looked at Jamey and gave him a death stare, then walked away. Jamey kneeled in front of Janice and said, “Janice, that’s one of the reasons why I always walk you to class because of jerks like that. Imagine if they did take your lunch, then, you would be hungry all day! And you don’t want that, right?” and Janice shook her head, teary-eyed. Jamey hugged her, then rushed off to class himself. He first had to go to language arts, one of his most favorite classes. The teacher there was like a laid back, cool dude, who is strict, but fair. When he walked in, everybody was in their seats already, and Jamey had to rush to his seat in the middle of the classroom.
When he sat down, the teacher, Mr. Baxter, raised his hand to silence the class. He then said, “ladies and gentlemen, I was actually walking around near the young grades area, and saw something amazing. I actually videotaped it!” watch, and he picked up a remote and turned on a promethium board on the wall, and the video, was the confrontation between Jamey and the high schooler. Jamey slouched in his chair, while everybody was watching intensely, and when it was over, Jamey expected everybody to laugh, boo, or something else but surprisingly, everybody clapped in his direction.
“that my friends,” Mr. Baxter said, “is what we will be learning about today. Now, many people say that when people pick on other people, you should not intervene, but, what Jamey showed us today, is that whoever does say that, is an idiot. Now-” Mr. Baxter went on to talk about the lesson, but one of Jamey’s friends, whose name is Jason, leaned over and asked, “hey, were you really gonna get in a fight with those goons?” Jamey replied with a silent nod, not wanting to get caught talking to another classmate.
A few hours have passed, and Jamey was almost done with class, when he heard the speakers come on and say, “lady’s and gentlemen, we have a flood warning in effect, so we are sending everybody home early tonight. Thank you for your cooperation, teachers, you have the email with the time when you should send your students out. It will also have instruction in case of an emergency. Thank you.” Then, the speakers shut off. It was strange, usually, the principle only talks about emergencies when there is something wrong, like a tornado or a fire, but a flood? ‘It must be some flood’ Jamey thought to himself. Mr. Baxter went to his computer, and after a few minutes, smiled, and said, “All right kids, and great news! You get to eat lunch early! Also, free time!”
Jamey took out his lunchbox right away, and started chowing! Everybody else soon followed, and then rushed off to the computers on the side of the room. The tables were re-arranged so everybody was with their friends, and the room was soon filled with talking. Jamey was with a table with a few of his friends, including Jason, his best friend jack, and another friend, who likes to be called Ash. The table was talking about sports, video games, and other stuff, when Jamey then asked, “so, what do you guys think about this flood?” and right away, Ash said, “oh please, you mean the warning? I bet 20 dollars it won’t even happen!”
with the uprising of bets, Jason states, “20 dollars? What about 40? I bet it will happen!” jack, who always hated bets, said, “really? Bets? I ain't betting my money on nuthin!” Ash, seeing that Jamey hadn’t said anything, asked, “well? What’s your bet?” Jamey thought about for a moment, and then said, “I bet 100 dollars AND my X-Box that it will happen.” Everybody looked at him wide-eyed. “if your betting that much, then I’d rather be on Ashes side!” Jason said and scooted his way towards Ash. They all laughed after that and went back to their talking until they heard the distant sound of sirens, and the whole class went silent.
Mr, Baxter, who is usually laid back, got up, and told everybody, “everybody please get up, and go outside of the classroom! That isn’t a flood, it’s a Tsunami!” and the whole class went into chaos. Almost everybody ran out, but Jamey stayed behind to help the remaining kids. When they saw that Jamey was still behind, the rest of his friends ran back to help too. when they got everybody out, they all ran out and Jamey said, “I got to get my little sister! I’ll see you guys soon!” and ran off. He ran through the chaos of screaming, kids running, and teachers hurrying kids away. When he finally reached his sister's classroom, he knocked on the door rapidly and heard the kids inside, but he couldn’t open it.
he could hear the teacher inside yell over the kids, “the doors jammed!” and he could hear his little sister yelling for help. He walked backwards and rammed into the door, but it wouldn’t budge, he tried over and over again, with no budge, then, he felt a hand grab him from the back, and pull him away, it was the kids that tried to fight him earlier! They both rushed at the door at the same time, and the door slammed open. When it opened, Jamey could see that the kids inside were crying, and wheezing, and they were all led outside.
The two kids looked at Jamey, and just said, “don’t mention it.” and ran off. Jamey ran to the teacher and asked, where his sister was, and right when he asked, Janice ran over and hugged his leg. Jamey kneeled over, and picked her up, “I’d love to hug you back, but we got to go!” and rushed off with her. When they reached the front of the school, they couldn’t see their parents anywhere, so Jamey took out his phone, and called them. When they answered, Jamey could hear the relaxing voice of her mother, “Jamey? Where are you?”
when Jamey told her that they were in front of the school, his mother said, “look, we can't get to you! We were hauled off by the military evacuating us! We tried to tell them where you were, but they would not listen! They said that-” static soon took over the phone. The distorted voice of his mother soon said, “TaKESafEJaM-” and the call dropped. Jamey put his phone away and tried asking anybody if they could give them a ride, but everybody they went up to drove away. Knowing that nobody was gonna help them, he ran over to the parking lot and looked for abandoned cars. He saw one man in a business suit trying to run over to his car, but a group of people was telling him that it's not worth it and pulled him to a truck, and they drove off.
Knowing that in times of danger, he had to do what he had to do, he rushed over to the car, tried to open it, but it was locked. He had never broken into a car before. But he had to try, so he picked up a rock from the floor, and started smashing it into the window, trying to get in. then, out of the blue, he heard Ash say, “Jamey! Out of the way!” and he jumped out of the way as she came through with a baseball bat, and smashed the window in. Jamey reached in and opened the door, cutting his arm on a loose piece of glass, and unlocked the car. He put Janice in the backseat and got in.
Ash was in the passenger seat, and asked, “how are we gonna start it?” and Jamey looked around and found, luckily, a spare set of keys. He started the car and maneuvered his way out of the parking lot. He asked Ash, “what happened to the rest of the guys?” and ash said, “they were taken by an evacuation truck, sadly, there wasn’t enough room for me, so I ran to the parking lot, and had the same idea you had.” “and the baseball bat?” Jamey asked pointing to the bat, “I found it on the floor, who knows, maybe a baseball player dropped it?” and from the tone of her voice, that was the end of their discussion.
Jamey shot down the road, trying to get as far away from the coast as possible, but the sirens that were blaring then went off. a voice from the speakers then said, “ladies and gentlemen, our calculations have been incorrect, the tsunami will not hit for another 24 hours. I repeat, the tsunami will not hit until another 24 hours, god bless us all.” And the speakers went silent. Jamey knew that he had a while away until he reached the nearest evacuation shelter, so he decided to stop at his house first. When he reached it, he pulled into the driveway and got out. “Jamey, why are we at your house? You and I both know that a tsunami can destroy this in a second.” Ash asked.
Jamey shot back sarcastically with, “oh no, I just came to grab a Greek yogurt and maybe make a milkshake.” And smirked at her. He grabbed Janice out of the car, and they all went inside. Ash was supplied to get all the food they can get, Janice was supplied to fill up water bottles, and Jamey went to the backyard to grab the emergency fuel canisters they had. When he walked to the backdoor, he heard people in the backyard. He walked to the laundry room, where they stashed all the valuables, and took out a BB gun. He opened a window near the backyard and looked outside, there were 5 men out there looking at the fuel, all of them had hammers, machete’s, or axes with them.
Jamey aimed the gun and shot one of the looter's machetes out of his hand. All of the looters jumped back and climbed the fence in the backyard. That was probably the same way they got in. Ash ran over and looked at Jamey with the gun sticking out the window, and just asked, “whom did you shoot?” and Jamey pointed out the window to show the tools left behind by the looters, and Ash just nodded and went back into the kitchen. Jamey went outside, still with the BB gun in hand, and checked the Gas canisters. All of them had been siphoned out, and empty. Jamey cursed himself for not getting home sooner, but then realized that there was nothing he could have done.
When they all were done scavenging the house, they put it all in jamey's parents truck, and Jamey, stood outside of the house, looking at it. it had been his home since he was born, and now he’s abandoning it. he said one final goodbye and got in the truck. They stopped at a gas station to fill up their gas canisters. While Ash was filling it up, Jamey took Janice inside to grab a few snacks. When he got inside, the whole place was filled with people rushing to get food, and rushing to pay for it. he walked around the store, grabbed a hand-held basket, and put a few drinks and snacks in the basket.
He then walked to the slushie machine at the back of the store, and looked at Janice, “you want a slushie Janice?” and she nodded with excitement. Jamey took out a cup and started filling it up when a big dude pushed him out of the way saying, “move kid!” and started filling a giant water jug with it. when he saw that Jamey had a kid with him, he then stopped, and said, “sorry..” and walked away with half of the jug full. Jamey watched him leave, without even paying, and went back to filling up the cups. Jamey came out and put all his snacks and drinks in the truck. He gave the two slushie’s to Janice and Ash and kept one for himself. The canisters had been filled, so they went off to the evacuation shelter again.
They were on the road when Jamey suddenly stopped the truck. On the side of the road, was Jason and jack! Jamey rolled down his window and called out, “Jason! Jack! Over here!” and they got up, and rushed over. “hold up your driving?” Jason asked when he saw Jamey in the front seat, “oh come on, how come you get to drive and I don’t?!” and they all laughed, Jason and Jack got in the back seat with Janice, and said, “dude! It is so good to see you guys! I thought we were dead for sure!”
Jamey then asked, “why were you guys on the side of the road?” “we didn’t get on the Evac truck, so we started walking, what about you?” Jack asked, “Me, Jane, and Jamey took an abandoned car.” Ash said, and Jamey corrected her by saying, “well, not so abandoned car.” Jason and Jack looked at them like they were crazy, “you guys stole a car?!?!?” jack near-screamed at them, “not stolen, just, borrowing! Besides, I almost had my license!” Jamey shot back in defense, “guys, while you guys are having a little fussy fit, there is a tsunami heading our way in a few hours.” Ash said. Jamey looked at the watch on the truck computer and it said 6:36 AM.
About two hours have passed since the sirens have gone off. “ash is right, we got to go.” Jason said, and Jamey started driving again. Half an hour later, they had reached a blockade in the road, a bunch of cars was piled up in the middle of the road, they seemed abandoned. “great, we have a blocade..ram it!” Jason said eagerly, “heck naw! I ain't ramming a bunch of cars! They’ll total the car for sure!” Jamey said. Suddenly, three men in hoodies rushed over and tried to open the truck doors. Luckily, they were locked, and when they ran up, Jamey floored it backward, launching the men off of the car, and rammed into the barricade.
the two cars that Jamey hit went flying and Jamey didn’t stop. “Hot dang! Those guys tried to hijack us!” Jason said, but Jamey didn’t look at him or responded, he just kept going. About two hours have passed, and they had almost reached the evacuation shelter when they noticed two kids and their mother walking by themselves. When the mother noticed the car, she started waving them down. Everybody thought Jamey was gonna stop, but Jamey kept on going, “dude! What are you doing? Stop the car!” Jack said, “and let them hijack us? No way!” Jamey shot back. Janice, who hadn’t said anything during their trip, said, “they have kids.” And Jamey looked at Janice in the rear-view mirror, and slowly stopped the car.
