Gregor Samsa went to sleep one night, completely unaware that the next morning he would wake up to realize.....

....that he had transformed into a giant insect.

But Gregor was more concerned about missing work

"I'm late for work! My boss is going to be so angry! I might lose my job!"

"If I hurry, I can still make the 7:00 train."

Gregor began trying to get out of bed to go to work, but he felt strange in this new bug body, and he fell down, causing a loud THUMP!!!

Gregor's mother heard the commotion and began to wonder why her son was still in bed. He was a busy salesman who should have left for work hours ago.

"Gregor?! Is everything okay? Why haven't you gone to work?!"

"Everything is fine, mother. I will be leaving soon. I simply overslept. That's it. I must be exhausted from the extra work I've been doing. I'll be leaving soon."

Soon Gregor's mother, father, and younger sister, Greta were all worried and huddled outside of his door, begging him to come out.

"Gregor! Please unlock the door! What is wrong?!"

But Gregor could not yet control his insect body well enough to get to the door, let alone open it. And his words, which sounded perfectly normal to him, sounded like unfamiliar, inhuman sounds to his family.

DING DONG

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. And Gregor knew it was his manager, here to find out why he was not at work.

"Gregor! Your boss is here! Please come out!!"

"Gregor. You have never missed a day of work in 5 years. So this absence is quite troubling. You might lose your job for this!"

"Please sir, there is no need to scare my family with these threats. I am not trying to trick the firm, I was just feeling ill. But I am much better now and I will open the door momentarily."

Gregor began to slowly make his way to the door, and since he could not use his insect hands, he opened the door with his mouth.

"See? I am perfectly willing to work."

"Uh..I.....uh...uh..."

When Gregor opened the door everyone was stunned.

"What's the matter?"

.....*runs away*.....

His boss ran away, eyes wide and mouth agape.

Suddenly Gregor's family began screaming with terror, and his father chased him back into his bedroom and slammed the door shut.

Now Gregor was all alone, and sad that he frightened his family now. They did not seem to understand that he was still Gregor on the inside.

Gregor listened from his room as his family stressed about his condition, and his new status of unemployment. They wondered how they would survive without Gregor making all of the money to support them.
