Hello! My name is Gneiss! I'm named after a gray and white metamorphic rock! Today we are going over some Earth Science vocabulary, and we will be collecting the alphabet along the way! Let's get started!

Acidic Rock is a type of igneous rock that will fizz if a drop of acid is added. Granite (which is known to be used for counter tops) is an acidic rock!

Boundaries can be three different types in Earth Science: Divergent, Convergent, and Transform.

Crust is what we are standing on right now! It is the top thin layer of the earth, containing dirt, rocks, and different kinds of creatures!

Deformation is the physical change of rock. This can include plastic or brittle deformation.

Earthquakes are caused by transform plates sliding against each other. This causes the ground to shake!

Faults are fractures in the crust of the Earth where movement has been present. This is typically where earthquakes take place.

Groundwater is water that is stored deep into the ground.

Hydrolysis is the chemical reaction between water and minerals (such as rocks).

Igneous Rock is the type of rock that is formed from molten rock.

Jaspilite is a sedimentary rock, and can sometimes be used as iron ore!

Karat is the measure of the pureness of gold. Have you ever head of 24 carat gold? That means pure gold!

Lithification is the process where sediments are transformed into sedimentary rocks.

Mountains are masses of land that are at a higher elevation than surrounding land.

Natural Gas is gas that occurs naturally under ground. This gas can be used for burning fuel.

Ore Mineral can be a useful mineral rich enough to be mined for profit.

Physical Weathering is what causes rocks to become smaller in size.

Quartz is a mineral that appears more than any other mineral in Earth's crust!
