Chanteuse's cloak
When Mum's new baby is born, Channelled won't be the youngest in her family anymore. But Channelled doesn't want to be big sister. All She wants is cloak - the sort of cloak that will make her invisible.

Chapter One
Channelled loved play dress-ups, but lately her big sister Eva did't want to play with her. She said only babies played dress-ups. 'Soon you'll be too old for dress-ups too,' Eva told
Channelled. 'When Mum's baby comes, you won't be the youngest in the family anymore. You'll be a big sister like me.' 'I don't want to be a big sister.' Channelled turned
away and looked out her bedroom window. She could see Tyson from next door in his back yard.. He didn't have any brothers or sisters. There was just him. Tyson liked playing dress-ups. He had a long blue cloak that dripped with silvery starts. He called it his Cloak of invisibility. Right now Tyson was practising being invisible.
All channelled could see were the silvery stars peeking from behind a tree. Chantelled sighed. 'I want a cloak like Tyson's,' said to herself. 'Then I can be invisible too.'
Chapter two
'Look, Mum,' said Chantelle. She held up a library book about dress- ups. 'There's a cloak in here just like Tyson's Can you make one for me?' Mum was resting on the
couch. 'Chantelle, I'm too tired today. There's still so much to do before the baby is born. Ask Eva to help.
Or ask Aunt beatrice. She might know you can use to make a cloak.' Chantelle threw down
the library book. She started to cry. 'Oh, Chantelle, come here, darling,' began mum, but Chantelle was already running out the back door. She met Aunt Beatrice coming up the path with a bundle of material. 'Is that for my cloak?'asking Chantelle, pointing to it. 'Cloak?' repeated Anut
Beatrice. 'No, dear, I'm going to make bunny rugs to wrap the baby in. Nana
and I are finishing off some sewing your mother started.'
'Everyone has time to do things for the baby,' said Chantelle, 'but they don't have time to do things for me. I just want a cloak.'
Chapter Three
Aunt Beatrice looked at Chantelle's unhappy face. 'Come with me,' she said. They went into the study, where Mum usually did her sewing. Aunt Beatrice put the
bundle of material on the table. 'Look in the scrap box, sweetie,' she said. 'See if you can find something we could make into a cloak.' Chantelle pulled bits of fabric out of the scrap box. Nothing looked right. Thenshe saw a lovely long piece of red velvet. 'What about this?' she asked.
'We were saving that velvet for something special, and it looks as if we've found it,' said Aunt Beatrice. 'Spread it out on the table, and I'll cut it into the right shape. it will be the start of your cloak.'
Eva was in her bedroom.holding one of Chantelle's dolls in the crook of her arm. 'What are you doing?' asked Chantelle. Eva had stopped playing with dolls
long ago. That was another game chantelle had to play by herself now. 'I' m practising for when the baby comes,' Eva said. 'Everyone is talking about the bady, but it's not even here yet. I'm making a cloak!' Chantelle showed Eva the red velvet. 'Oh, Chantelle, you are so funny. Why do you want a cloak?'
'So I can be invisible, like Tyson,' Chantelle said. 'You could make a cloak, too, and we could play dress-ups.'
'why don't we play dolls instead? Just this once.'Eva smiled at Chantelle.
"No, I don't like playing dolls anymore. I want to finish making my cloak.' Chantelle twirled the red velvet onto her shoulders. She looked at herself in the mirror. Something was missing. it didn't seem like a cloak yet.
Chapter Five
Late that night Chantelle as sure she heard Nana's voice, Aunt Beatrice's voice and Dad's voice all coming from her parent's bedroom. Then there was a banging of car doors, and everything
was quiet again. in the morning Eva came to make her up.
Chantelle did';t want to wake up. She was having such a cosy dream. it was
about a dress-up shop that sold cloaks in all the colours of the rainbow. 'It's coming,' said Eva. 'My cloak?' asked Chantelle, trying to wipe the sleep from her eyes. 'No, Chantelle, don't be silly. Mum's baby! it's nearly here. Didn't you hear Nana and Aunt Beatrice arrive last night? And Dad came home from night shift.
He took Mum to hospital.' 'Hospital/' chantelle was wide awake now. She got out of bed and put on her slippers. "the baby can't be
here yet. I'm not ready to be a big sister.' Eva sighed. 'Nana says
you're to come and have some of her delicious pancakes for breakfast.' She ed the way to the kitchen.
Chapter Six
'Oh, Chantelle, dear,' said Nana. she gave Chantelle a hug that smelt like melting butter and golden syrup. 'Oh, Chantelle, sweetie,' said Aunt Beatrice. She
gave chantelle an even bigger hug that left sugaron her pyjamas. 'This is
an exciting day. Soon You'll have new brotheror sister!'
Nana gave Chantelle a big pancake.Eva handed her a knife and fork. Anut Beatrice passed her the golden syrup. 'Soon you won't be the family, Chantelle,' said Nana. Her words unrolled slowly, like the syrup spreading over the pancake. 'Soon you'll be a big sister. You'll
