For AP Government 3rd Hour

“Energy in the Executive is a leading character in the definition of good government.”
The energy needed for the leading character brings the country protection, law enforcement, property protection, and safety against threats.

“The ingredients which constitute energy in the Executive are, first, unity; secondly, duration; thirdly, an adequate provision for its support; fourthly, competent powers.”
By saying “energy in the Executive” Hamilton means Functional and effective leader, He talks about the Consuls of Rome, and how the unity and ‘energy’ is destroyed by creating two officials with equal power because it leads to the indecisiveness he talks about earlier.

“A feeble executive implies a feeble execution of the government. A feeble execution is but another phrase for a bad execution; and a government ill executed, whatever it may be in theory, must be, in practice, a bad government.”
In this quote, Hamilton says why the executive is so important, it’s required to have a government fit to run a country well, and that includes having a strong executive branch.

"When power is placed in the hands of so small a number of men...it becomes more liable to abuse..." and "Lodged in the hands of one man...will be more narrowly watched and more readily suspected..."
Alexander states that when multiple people all hold the power together they can align themselves for their common interests and abuse their power, however when there is one person of power, they are more easily watched and less likely to abuse their power.

“One of the weightiest objections to a plurality in the executive” “that it tends to conceal faults, and destroy responsibility” “to determine whom the blame or punishment of a pernicious measure” “ought really to fall.”
Alexander says that a executive group that isn't an individual is that it removes responsibility and hides mistakes, it also removes blame towards the whole group, and doesn't give punishment to the whole group
