Introduction

Bean plants are amazing because you can grow them easily and you can eat them!

Did you know you can grow beans at home?

What a bean plant needs to grow.

Plants need air, water, warmth, food and light. 

A seed needs to be warm to germinate. Germination is when the seed starts to sprout in to a plant.

If a plant does not have enough light, it will grow to be tall and flimsy.  It will probably die.

If a plant is not watered enough, its stem can break and it may have very dry leaves. It could die.

Plant Investigation

What you need:

3 cups or bags

Beans

Soil or cotton wool

Water

Put soil in your cup or cotton wool in your bag.

Put one in a cupboard and water it. Put one near a window and water it. Put one on a window and do not water it.

Write what happens everyday.

Parts of a bean plant.

The bean plant has flowers, leaves, pods, a stem and fruit known as beans.

The leaves use light, water and air to make food. The stem transports the food and water. The roots take the food and water from the ground.

Lifecycle of a bean plant.

First the seed germinates and a shoot comes out.

Second the roots and stem will appear.  The bean uses the food in the seed to grow taller.

After that the bean plant will flower and be pollinated.

Finally a pod will form and we can eat the beans!
