Blood Flow

LungsHeartBlood Cells

Another Adventure
with
Captain Learn-A-Lot!

Let's Learn!

Captain Learn-A-Lot wants to know how he can keep his
body strong. Flying through the air and saving the world is hard
work!

"Hmmm, where can I go to learn how to
keep my body strong?", Captain Healthy Start
thought to himself as he was eating breakfast
one morning.

"Hello?"

"I know! I'll make an appointment with
Doctor Sweetheart. She can help me!" said
Captain.
He called and made an appointment to
see her that day.

"Doctor Sweetheart'soffice, how can I help you?"

"Why, hello Captain Learn-A-Lot! What can I do
for you today?", asked Doctor Sweetheart.
"I want to learn more about my body and how to
keep it healthy", answered Captain Learn-A-Lot.
"Well, you're in the right place. Why don't we
start by learning about the circulatory system?",
said Doctor Sweetheart smiling.

The heart takes center stage when it comes to
the circulatory system. The heart is a muscle about
the size of your fist, and it is always working!
The heart works as a pump to carry energy from
your food and oxygen throughout your body.
The Heart=

Energy

I'm the heart, the center of the circulatory system!

The heart carries two different kinds of blood.
The blue blood has very little oxygen. This blood comes to your heart
from other parts of your body. From the heart, it gets sent to the lungs. The
lungs are like a recharging station.
The lungs recharge the blue blood with oxygen
The lungs rechargeblood with oxygen!

red blood...from the....lungs moves......to......heart!

Red blood is oxygen rich. It gets pushed from the
lungs back to the heart.

"That sure is a lot to remember Doctor!", said Captain Learn-A-Lot. "Can we do a quick review?"

Blue blood: Has very little oxygen
Moves towards the lungs to
be recharged

Red blood:Is oxygen rich
Pushed from lungs back
to the heart
