Food for Thought

Baking is a science. For the purposes of S.T.E.M., it has qualities of science, based on chemical reactions of ingredients, mathematics in the measurements, and technology in the oven in which the food is cooked. I believe I could also make a case for engineering with the design of the food just like the pie that is pictured.
Navigate the Open Road

Some cars, like mine, have a built-in compass and temperature gauge. When discussing S.T.E.M. I would say that this has components of science and mathematics. The science includes the compass which displays the direction you are traveling, using magnetic fields. Math involves the measurement of the outdoor temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. Since the display is digital, there is also a minor element of technology.
Rolling 'Round the Office

This is a picture of myself in high school getting my Smart Drive motor at the wheelchair company in Kansas City. It was comprised of a bracelet and motor that could pair. This is comprised of technology for the motor and you were able to use math in order to calculate my speed and distance over time.
Clothing Construction

This is a picture of my roommate holding up a recent purchase. I qualify this as S.T.E.M. because of the way clothing is made. You are required to make various measurements on the fabric requiring mathematics, and once that is finished, you must use technology such as industrial sewing machines to construct the final product.
Helpful Hygiene

My electric toothbrush can also be considered S.T.E.M. through engineering and technology. The toothbrush is designed to make brushing your teeth much more efficient which would fall under engineering and the toothbrush uses technology through the battery and charging dock as well as it's multiple settings for use.
Going Up!

Another element of S.T.E.M. is the elevator. The elevator uses math and the science of simple machines to function. The weight capacity of an elevator is calculated through what cables may hold and the elevator moves up and down using a system of pulleys.
Ready, Set, Transfer!

This is the sit-to-stand lift that I use for transfers. S.T.E.M. is used through science and technology. The lift uses wheels and hydraulics to move and operate. The lift also has a rechargeable battery and remote control to raise and lower the occupant.
Fish Are Friends

This is my two-gallon fish tank for my Betta, Orion. This is S.T.E.M. because it uses math and technology. The heater must maintain the water temperature and the filter must cycle out the waste. The light provides me with better visibility, which requires electricity.
