What might be the cold war you asked?
The Cold War was a long period of tension between the democracies of the Western World and the communist countries of Eastern Europe. The west was led by the United States and Eastern Europe was led by the Soviet Union. These two countries became known as superpowers. Although the two superpowers never officially declared war on each other, they fought indirectly in proxy wars, the arms race, and the space race.

Arms Race: A competition between nations for superiority in the development and accumulation of weapons, especially between the US and the former Soviet Union during the Cold War.
example: The Cold War nuclear arms race between the U.S and the Soviet Union.
Nuclear Proliferation: the spread of nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons were technology, or material to countries that do not already possess them.
example: U.S. program, known as the Manhattan Project, produced the first atomic bomb in July 1945.
What does these mean, and how do they relate to the Cold War?

Containment
Containment was a United States policy using numerous strategies to prevent the spread of communism abroad. The Truman Doctrine emerged in a speech in March 1947. In this speech Truman promised help to any country fighting a Communist takeover. The policy became known as Containment of Communism. The Marshall Plan was a major programmed of economic aid offered to all European states to help them recover from the war.

Space Race: Develop aerospace capabilities, including artificial satellites, unmanned space probes, and human spaceflight.
How did the the space race affect the U.S & USSR? The space race was a Cold War competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to develop aerospace capabilities, including artificial satellites, unmanned space probes, and human spaceflight.

Korean War: Supported by the US and UN.
Vietnam War: The Vietnam War was a proxy war because it was supported by the Republic of China and the USSR.
Cuban Civil War: Supported by the Soviet Union to attack their enemy(US).

The cause of the Korean war was that they had a different aspect on how to unified Korea. North Korea wanted to unified Korea through communism and South Korea wanted a Non-Communist Korea. Therefore, they didn’t accept the border between them. Which led North Korea to make the first step to invade and attack the Republic of Korea(South Korea) in June 1950. Ending the fighting in November 1950, when UN(United State) forces pushed Chinese and North Korean forces across the 38 parallel, and later sign an Armistice signed in July 1953(Not a peace treaty; doesn’t mean that they won’t attack in the future). North Korea was left with the same territory as before. Around 40,000 American and 61,000 South Korean soldiers lost their lives. Lastly, 1.5-2 million communists(Chinese and North Korean soldiers) died during the process of helping North Korea to take over.

The Vietnam War began in the 1950s when communism was spread in the North of Vietnam by Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh wanted the independence of Vietnam from the French, who were supported by the UN(United State) for the reason that they both believe in the Domino Theory, and consider Vietnam as a communist(UN didn't support Ho Chi Minh). In 1954, France negotiate a peace treaty that will give the communist the North to Vietnam and they will stay in the South. The one in control of the South will mistreat all the citizens and the people will start to support the North. In March 1968, President Johnson bombs North of Vietnam(Communist area), many people died, and Unites States citizens weren't happy with the president. At the end of the war, there was more than 58,000 American soldiers and 2 million Vietnamese soldiers and civilians were killed in the Vietnam War(1954-75). After taking back all the territory from France, Vietnam will become a communist state(July 1975).

The Cuban Civil War was an armed uprising against the government of Fulgencio Batista conducted by Fidel Castro on July 26, 1953. Batista was a corrupted, violent, and also known dictator who didn't care about his people. Ended by making Cuba a communist state in January 1959. In 1962, the Soviet Union had placed a nuclear missile in Cuba, which was close to the UN and the Soviets try to scare them with the missile.-The Cold War was a tension between the Soviet Union and the United State and allies. Therefore, Cuba(Allied with the Soviet Union) helped the Soviet Union install the missile in their territory(1959) because they also view the United States as a threatening force. The Cuban Missile Crisis was important in the Cold War because it was a threat to the US from the Soviet Union.

What was the Soviets' job during the Afghanistan Civil War?: The Soviets allied with the Afghan communist government. To fight against the Afghans who didn't like the communist government.
Afghanistan Civil War
What is Détente?: Was the easing of strained relations between the US & USSR from 1962-1980. Détente ended after the Soviets intervened in the Afghan Civil war. And when Ronald Reagan was elected in the US, there was an anti-détente campaign and it took the focus off of it and on to the Cold War.
