When we began this IDT course, I used to think that an effective lesson plan just needed to have the name of the class, objectives, and time. After taking this course my thinking has changed. I now know that an effective lesson plan needs to have components of standards, objectives, and procedures that will ensure the objectives of the lesson are achieved. Lesson plans guide the directions in which the teachers can invest efforts with resources for that day. In addition, century skills and Technology together with materials should be incorporated into the classroom plan as well as assessments.
I used to think that the objectives of the lesson should just be specific and should state what students will know or be able to do at the end of the lesson. Taking this course has really changed my knowledge about lesson objectives. I now think and know that lesson objectives must not only state what students will know or be able to do at the end of the lesson, but must be written in a particular format which is ABCD Method A stands for Audience, B-Behavior, C-Condition, and D-Degree. I know that writing objectives using Bloom's Taxonomy will help me clarify the learning objectives.
Given starting poems, students will be able to write their own poems with 100% accuracy.
In this objective, "Given the starting poems" is a condition, students are the audience. "Write a poem on Behavior with 100% accuracy. This kind of format will help me clarify whether my outcomes have been achieved at the end of this lesson or not. In addition, I now know how to use Bloom's Taxonomy levels.
I used to think that lesson procedures can be stipulated in the lesson plan but not in a detailed manner, but I know an effective lesson plan demonstrates how a teacher creates objectives for his or her students and measure how those objectives are mastered. (Morley, 2005) For example, when I used the gradual release responsibility, I should explain how I will know that my students are understanding the content during every step of my lesson progress and show how students will be engaging in the evidence of learning.
In terms of Technology, I used to be incompetent in technology and used to think that using technology in classroom instruction was such a complex thing. It was not until I was exposed to various technologies in this course. Learning how to incorporate technology into teaching, however, I realized how easy and advantageous technology in the classrooms increases access to learning opportunities for all students. Technology can promote more effective involvement in the learning process, which may be challenging for the classroom environment. Technology prepares students for the future.
Using technology in the classroom helps students be more engaged with learning, For instance, the hand app is a great tool to use to teach a lesson, where the teacher and students can interact with each other. Quizizz is another great tool to use in your lesson to help students who are struggling with certain learning skills. The story jumper is a good tool to use for ESL students reading stories aloud while them are listening. Other forms of technology like Google forms can help in checking students' text through comprehension check questions and Adobe Sparks.
In addition, I now know that incorporating technology has to align with ISTE standards. This is important because adapting ISTE into the classroom helps improve critical thinking and helps encourages the use of technology by students for collaborative work in decision-making. I used to think that 21st-century skills can be acquired and even if they are taught, they don't have to be planned. I now know that 21st-century skills are very important by creating video tutorials to help students understand how to use various types of software.
I also now know that these skills not only provide a foundation for success in school but have ensured students are successful outside the classroom. Whenever a teacher teaches individuals or small groups to vary his or her teaching in order to create the best teaching experience possible, the teacher is differentiating instructional. Learning about technology and how to incorporate it into instruction will help me differentiate the instruction assessment. Lesson planning provides a step-by-step to guide teachers to delve deep into what he or she is teaching by providing them with the resources.
