Thank you guys so much for the party! I actually have an announcement to make.. I'm running for President! We all need to get the word out because the election is in 4 quick years! I got my slogan down and everything : "Perry the Penguin - The Time is Now!"

Over the course of the next year, Perry traveled all across the United States. He debated against other Democratic candidates through making speeches to all citizens and attempting to win the popular vote. The primary elections were taking place, and this is when Perry tried to win over the delegates in order to be formally nominated for his party's (democratic) nomination for President! The primaries are a big deal - in this process, political parties are formed with people of similar ideas. Then, voters elect their party representative in a caucus. 

Other states have an open primary, which means voters can vote for whoever they want despite what party they're in.

Some states have a closed primary, which means a voter MUST vote for the candidate representing their specific party.

The other option is a caucus, in which voters come together to discuss the candidates and eventually vote for who they want to represent their party.
