To Mrs. Alley

Mahatma Gandhi was an experienced, talented, and courageous man. He was a lawyer, and studied at a University in London. While in South Africa, Gandhi was aboard a first class train, possessing a legitimate ticket. While on the train, a white man approached and objected to him traveling first class. Refusing to leave, Gandhi was thrown off the train. This incident was the leading moment that encouraged Gandhi to stay in South Africa and fright against the prejudice behavior

The British administration developed a law that any person of color must carry an identification pass with them at all times. In an attempt to break the social justice they were under, Gandhi burned everybody's certificates in a bonfire held at an Indian Community meeting. As a result, the British military beat him and arrested him.

Since Gandhi has returned from South Africa, he traveled over much of India. In his travels, he has seen poverty in India being an enormous economic issue. He made a speech to his people discussing this issue, and starting the change he wanted to make for all of India and the rest of the world.
The British army invaded a speech given by an Indian citizen, shooting hundreds of Indians There were 1,516 casualties, and 1,560 bullets used. This was known as the Amritsar Massacre. Hearing about this, Gandhi preached for "peaceful, non-violent, non-cooperation." Essentially meaning regardless of how violent the British are, they will not fight back with violence of any kind. Gandhi wanted Hindu-Muslim equality, and for the title of "untouchable" to be erased entirely.

After finding out about the ongoing violence and protests happening in India, Gandhi swore to fast until it stopped. Indians swarmed British armies, burned down their buildings and beheaded one of them. Gandhi would not stand for the violence. His fast lasted a total of 7 days, until the violence eventually came to a close.
Since India was under British rule, many rules and regulations were set in place. One of these rules was that the Indians had to buy salt from the British. They were not allowed to produce it themselves. This lead to various health issues. As a result, Gandhi started The Salt March. A march to what is now the Indian ocean. They arrived at sea on the anniversary of the Amritsar Massacre. The purpose of this march was to provoke the British, showing that they are in control.

The aftermath of gaining Independence was now how Gandhi had planned. Hindus and Muslims were divided. Where the majority of Muslims stay, that became Pakistan. For the Hindus, the majority of where they are populated will be known as India. At the India-Pakistan boarder, Hindus and Muslims are seen migrating. In a flash, the two sides broke out in a massive fight; a huge bloodbath. As a result, tension and anger had been developed between the two parties.

In New Delhi India, January 30, 1984, Gandhi was finally shot. His assassination was held at the Birla House, in the garden, surrounded by hundreds of fellow Indians.
