Hey Livy! I am James and I heard you were an expert on Greek Culture! I need to learn all about Greece and its amazing history for my AVID project, can you help me out?

Hi James! I am an expert on Greek History and all the amazing things the country has to offer! I would love to help you with your project, but first you have to learn all about the background history!

Greece is a southeast European country of the Balkan Peninsula. I hope you will join me to learn all about Greece and the amazing history, and culture that comes along with it!
Let's talk all about Greek Culture! When Greece was first developed, the country was widely known for art, philosophy, and literature. Over time, however, art, drama, and science played a large role in the advancements of Western civilization. Over time the culture has changed. In present-day Greece, people love to host other families over and have a meal together. When this occurs some people do not give the host family a warning that they are coming, they tend to show up and they will bring flowers or a gift with them to show their appreciation for the host family,

In Greece, the official language spoken is Greek. Even though the language is Greek, it is extremely similar to the Italian, English, French, and Turkish languages. Since the language is very similar to common languages across the world, the language has been very beneficial to medicine, theology, physics, and philosophy. In addition to Greek being a common language, English is started to be taught when children reach the 3rd grade. Some different words in greek are Me SynhorĂte which means excuse me, parakalo which means please/you're welcome.
In Greece, religion is a large part of the culture, between 80-90 percent of people are Greek Orthodox Christians. Even though most people are Greek Orthodox Christians, most people do not go to church on a regular basis but when they do go to church women go more often than men do. To give a slight history of Greek Orthodox Christianity, it separated from the Roman Catholic Church in 1054 due to the Great Schism. The citizens or immigrants that are not Greek Orthodox Christian, are either Muslim or Roman Catholic, and religious freedom is widely accepted in Greece.
The main industries that are popular in Greece's economy include petroleum, textiles, metal products, food, chemicals, and tobacco. The people who do not work in these industries are involved in the agriculture business which makes up 13 percent of the employment population. On the hand, 16 percent of the population is unemployed and most of these people are immigrants. The standard currency for Greece is the euro and that has been the currency since 2002.
