THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR

The French and Indian War took place from 1754-1763. The French and Native Americans fought against the British. It was fought between France and Britain. This war led to westward expansion, and was important to America.

THE STAMP ACT OF 1765

The Stamp Act was created to help the British pay for the war. The British Parliament created it and it made Americans angry. It took place in 1765-1766, and put taxes on papers and documents in the American colonies. The Americans were upset, because they didn't feel fairly represented.

THE BOSTON MASSACRE

The Stamp Act caused the colonists to riot, which led to this massacre. Colonists and British soldiers were involved. After, there were more protests in the colonies, and made Americans really want independence.

THE INTOLERABLE ACTS

The Boston Tea Party led to the Intolerable acts, because Parliament was angry. This affected Americans, because it gave British even stricter control. Americans became very upset.

THE FIRST CONTINENTAL CONGRESS

The First Continental Congress was a group formed to represent the Americans. It was formed September 5th, 1774. The Congress petitioned the King to appeal the Intolerable Acts, and Britain imposed a tax on Americans.

COMMON SENSE BY THOMAS PAINE

Common Sense argued for American independence and democracy. It was published January 10th, 1776. It advocated for independence and helped it happen

THE SECOND CONTINENTIAL CONGRESS

The Second Continental Congress formed to support the Revolutionary War. It focused on the newly independent America and acted as an early government. This led to the Declaration of Independence.

THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He wrote it to declare independence and explain why. The separation from Britain was justified by listing what they did wrong.
