Once upon a time a girl named Olivia stumbled into a children and young adult literature class and was told she had to be a reading buddy.

Olivia was fortunate enough to have Paisley as her first buddy. Paisley was in second grade and enjoyed fictional books about girls like her. Olivia got her to read some multicultural books and Paisley learned to enjoy them.

Olivia's next buddy was another second grader, Max. Max enjoyed non-fiction books that I brought him as well as multicultural books. He was easy to please and loved being read to.

Olivia's next rotation of buddies was a third grader named Taylor. She was able to read well on her own. She enjoyed poetry books, fantasy and fairytales. Her favorite book we read was "Sleeping Beauty."

In Olivia's second rotation of buddies she met the shining star, Josie. Josie was in love with dinosaurs and could name every one in the non-fiction books Olivia brought her. Josie loved to sit in Olivia's lap. She may have been the most loveable kindergartner in the world.

Next, Olivia met the second grader Molly. Molly was a joyful little girl that loved to chat with Olivia. The two of them got a lot of chatting done and not as much reading. Olivia never really found out what Molly's favorite books are... but she can tell you a lot about Molly's life.

The final buddy Olivia had the pleasure of meeting was Ava. Ava loved to laugh and she was easy to make laugh. She found something to laugh about in every book Olivia brought; even the biographies.

Although Olivia was not sure what to expect with reading buddies, when she sat at her fire after her final session with her buddies, she thought about what kind of new books she had enjoyed the most....
