My attitude throughout the time with the buddies change. I started off in a bad attitude because I was nervous or stressed but at the end I was excited



is for Biography
Biographies can be any book about people written by someone else
My buddies often found biographies to be boring.


is for comprehension

Becoming a book buddy includes prompting the students for comprehension. As a buddy I did this by asking them what just happened, what they see or what they think will happen in the future.

is for Decoding

Decoding was a critical piece of a reading buddy. Decoding allowed my students to start to learn how to read. For my younger kindergarten students, I worked with them to tell me all the sounds and try to piece it together

is for engaging

Engagement was a big part of being a reading buddy. If students did not seem interested or want to engage then the reading is not as affective.
Some students were very more interested than others
is for Folktales & fairytales

Folktales are stories that originate in popular culture
Fairytales are stories that typically feature magic, enhancements, and mythical beings
Folktales & Fairytales brought out a since of silliness and enjoyment for my students. They loved to talk about magic and made up things
is for Genre

Throughout the time with each reading buddy we read different genres. Certain genres were more popular than others. My students loved realistic fiction books but strongly disliked historical fiction. Another genre that was a big hit was nonfiction because a lot of my students loved animals
is for Historical Fiction

It is a book that takes place in a setting related to a historical event but is still fictional and not factually accurate

is for Illustrations



As a reading buddy, illustrations were a big piece. It got the students involved and told them the story without physically reading.
is for Juana & Luca

This book taught me about how realistic fiction can teach students about real life experiences with still being fun.
is for Knowledge

Throughout the process the buddies gained knowledge in phonics, phonological awareness, comprehension and decoding.

is for Learning

I learned a lot from my being a reading buddy. They taught me about a different ways to reach students.

is for Multicultural


As a buddy, I learned the importance of incorporating different books with different races, cultural events and religions
is for Nonficition

Nonfiction is defined as writing that is based on facts. My students loved these type of books because they loved learning the truth about an event or an animal

is for Objectives

As a buddy I set different objectives each time for myself and my students.

is for Poetry

Poetry is defined as a form of literature that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic language
