Coretta Scott King was born the day of April 27, 1927 in Heiberger, Alabama. Her family lived on a farm there. Including her three siblings, Edythe, Obadiah, and Eunice.
She has shared her experience of living there, ¨...Growing up in the rural south, I witnessed the impacts of segregation and discrimination first hand.¨ Coretta said.

Coretta Scott King ´ s school was segregated, she explained how it felt, ¨...It was a difficult and unjust experience, but it fueled my determination to fight against segregation and injustice.¨

Coretta Scott King is famous for being involved with the Civil Rights Movement and being married to Martin Luther King Jr.
Becoming famous is either a dangerous possibility, or maybe even it is worth it. Coretta´ s thoughts on that was, ¨Becoming a public figure through the Civil Rights Movement was indeed dangerous, but undeniably worth it. I faced threats of violence and hated to enduring constant scrutiny and opposition. However, the importance of the cause and the impact it had on advancing justice and equality made it all worth it.¨
Coretta Scott King had many moments in her lifetime, but her biggest moment she has affirmed was, ¨...When I met and married Martin Luther King Jr. Our partnership in the fight for freedom and equality was a defining moment in my life, and it allowed us to inspire and support each other as we worked to make a difference.¨
Coretta has also explained why she was involved into the Civil Rights Movement, ¨For a calling for justice on equality, and to advocate for non-violent resistance, equal rights, and social change. I believed in the power of peaceful protest and civil disobedience as effective means to challenge discrimination and segregation.¨

Coretta had multiple accomplishments, but she shares what she thinks is the greatest she had and what she is proud of.
Correta Scott King had many accomplishments throughout her life. But, what she thinks is the greatest accomplishment in her history, ¨The establishment of the Center for Nonviolent Social Change is what I am proud of... The Center for Nonviolent Social Change was a great accomplishment of mine since it allowed people to create a lasting legacy and a platform for promoting the principles of nonviolence, social justice, and equality.¨
Another big accomplishment Coretta has had was helping advocate for the creation of her husband, Martin Luther King Jr´s federal holiday.
She has stated, ¨...It recognizes the contributions of the Civil Rights Movement and celebrating the legacy of a remarkable leader.¨ The Center for Nonviolent Social Change and the creation of Martin Luther King Jr. day as a national holiday both contributed to fostering a greater understanding of the Civil Rights Movement and such as nonviolence, equality, and justice.
