Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who made waves across America. He dreamed of a world where people were accepted for who they are and not judged by the color of their skin. Through his words and actions, he taught others how to be brave, to stand up for what is right, and to never back down, even when things got tough

Early Life

Martin was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He lived with both of his parents and two siblings. King came from a long line of pastors and found his faith early in life. Being inspired by his father he later followed in his footsteps and became a pastor too.
Education
Growing up King was able to skip two grades and start college at just 15 years old! He attended Morehouse college in Atlanta and eventually went on to earn a Ph.D. at Boston University.


Family
On June 18th, 1953 Martin Luther King married his wife Coretta Scott. His wife supported his mission and often stood right by his side during marches and speeches. She even kept fighting for civil rights after he passed away. Together they had four kids.

Montgomery Bus Boycott
Martin Luther King Jr. was a believer in using peasce and not violence. When Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus, it spaked something in Dr. King.

He lead a peascful protest called the Montgomery Bus Boycott. For over a year, African Americans refused to ride the buses. It eventually lead to the law finnally being changed.

In 1965, Martin Luther King lead thousands to Montgomery, Alabama. This march was a 54-mile walk to look at voting rights. During this time many African Americans could not vote.

"I Have a Dream" Speech

One of the most famous speeches in American History is the "I Have a Dream" Speech. In 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial Dr. King spoke about his dream of equality and freedom. His speech spoke volumes around the world.
