My mom was multitasking, chatting with me while doing chores, when she received a call she went into the living room and received it. I overheard something about a young broadcaster and when my mom came back, she told me I got into the NCN young broadcasters club which was from the 14th to the18th August starting from 9am to noon. I asked her what she meant, and she explained that it's an activity where participants learn radio and television presentation skills. This sounds incredibly exciting, especially since I enjoy reading, public speaking, and using a microphone. My mom shared my enthusiasm.
I am a confident eight year old with lots of confidence who enjoys reading, going on stage and speaking on the microphone.
"The following day, we purchased a floral-patterned shirt for me to wear on the first day, aiming for an appropriate and impressionable look. Sunday, I had my hair braided and my nails polished. I wore my flower shirt and stiff blue skirt on the first day of the workshop. My mom also allowed me to wear pink lipgloss.
On the first day, we arrived in my mom's car early, she registered me then gives me hugs and kisses and left. After my mom left, an old man named Papi came and gave us prizes. We then processed to the television room.
Guess what! We were on television! I was delighted when I heard that, we talked about our pets, unforgettable memories and the most wonderful place you've been to. After a while we then we went to the radio room and learnt how it operated and how advertisements was done. I asked what NCN meant and the young lady that was presenting said, 'National Communication Network.' We had our snack which was pizza and that was the end of day .
Tuesday the 15th of August, 2023 was day two and I had a wonderful day. I wore a striped shirt with flowers, a flowy cream skirt and pink tights. When I arrived my mom escorted me inside, said goodbye and left.
A fascinating thing about today was that Leroy a blind man who works at NCN, talked to us. He said that he was blind since he was six, he shared that when was younger his dad would put the radio in front of him so he could listen to the news. We liked talking to him and hoped that we could talk to him again.
My group went to the television room where the organizers handed out books for us to take notes in. We learnt that NCN was formed in 2004 and it covers 80% of people watching news. We also learnt Coastal Radio and Regional Radio. Two Coastal Radios are VB and Voice of Guyana. All of the Regional Radio stations are Aishalton, Lethem, Mahdia, Essequibo, Bartica, and Orealla. I think there was another but I can't remember it now.
