To the teachers - This book is a reflection of your dedication to opening minds, to encouraging curiosity, and to helping students see their cities not just as places they live in, but as stories they are part of. You walked beside your students helping them discover hidden histories, overlooked beauty, and the value of local culture in a global world. Thank you for your tireless guidance, creativity, and heart. Without you, these pages would be empty.

This collaborative eTwinning project connects students from five cities across Europe. By exploring and documenting the streets of our hometowns, we have discovered not just buildings and monuments, but the people, stories, and traditions that give each place its soul.
Join us as we stroll the streets of Košice, Afragola, Bitola, Thessaloniki, and Aliartos — discovering Europe through our own footsteps.
Welcome to our guidebook!

Košice, Slovakia
Košice is a city full of history, charm, and cultural treasures. It’s the second-largest city in Slovakia and has one of the most beautiful historical centres in the country. Let’s take a walk through some of its most iconic places.

St. Elisabeth´s Cathedral
This is the largest church in Slovakia and the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe. It stands proudly in the middle of the city and is over 700 years old.
Don’t miss climbing the tower for an amazing view over Košice!
Main Street
This is the heart of Košice — a wide pedestrian street lined with cafés, fountains, historic buildings, and performers. Everything in the old town is just a short walk away from here.

Alley of crafts
A small street where time seems to stand still. Here, you can see how local craftspeople worked in the past—potters, blacksmiths, and other artisans. Today, it’s a peaceful spot full of character, and you can still visit workshops or buy handmade souvenirs.

Mikluš prison
Right off the Alley of Crafts, you’ll find a mysterious building that once served as a city prison. Today, it’s a museum showing what life was like behind bars in medieval times.

Marathon Square
Košice is home to the oldest marathon in Europe – the Peace Marathon. Every year, runners from all over the world gather here. The square features a statue dedicated to the marathon and is an important symbol of endurance and peace.

Observation tower (Hradová)
For a stunning panoramic view of Košice, head to the Observation Tower on Hradová Hill. It’s about a 30-minute walk or a short drive from the centre. Climb the spiral stairs and enjoy the 360° view of the city, forests, and beyond.

Afragola, Italy
Afragola is an Italian municipality in the metropolitan city of Naples in Campania, southern Italy. The symbol of Afragola is the coat of arms which consists of a gold-colored Samnite shield on which is superimposed a hand holding four
red strawberries. The whole is enclosed on
the sides by a branch of laurel and an
oak, tied together by a tricolor ribbon.

The municipal territory of Afragola is dotted with churches and chapels, almost all of
significant historical-artistic,
architectural or cultural interest.

of Padua
The sanctuary was built in
Baroque style starting in 1633, a miraculous crucifix is preserved in the Basilica, while the wooden statue of Saint Anthony of Padua from the 17th century is placed in a large tabernacle. The cult of Saint Anthony has made the sanctuary a famous place of pilgrimage (with a feast day on June 13).

According to legend, Afragola was founded in 1140 by Roger II of Sicily, an event painted in 1886 by the painter Augusto Moriani, depicting Roger, surrounded by his soldiers and in the act of granting them the lands.
Pine forest
The pine forest, as the municipal
villa of the city of Afragola is called,
is located in the immediate vicinity
of the Basilica of Sant Antonio di
Afragola. It is a meeting point for many young people in the city but also the place where important institutional events take place.

The Naples- Afragola railway station is located in the geographical centre of the municipal territory of Afragola. It was judged by the BBC and CNN among the best buildings in the world in 2017. Bitola, North Macedonia
Bitola, known during the Ottoman Empire as Monastir, is one of the oldest cities in North Macedonia. It has been known since the Ottoman period as the "City of Consuls", since many European countries had consulates in Bitola.
Bitola’s urban atmosphere is perfectly combined with its picturesque surroundings. The city is noted for its cultural and historical spots, unique traditions and lifestyle of the locals. We want to show you the city recognizable by its charm and hospitality. Let us guide you to explore Bitola.
Širok Sokak is the main and busiest street in Bitola, with numerous shops and bars. Located in the city center, as the local population says, this is the place where you go if you want to see someone in Bitola or to be seen.
The Clock Tower with an imposing height of 32 meters, is the most recognizable landmark of Bitola.

Bitola is famous for its architecture. In the city center there are many buildings that are examples of old Macedonian architecture.
One of the most beautiful buildings in the city is the Officers' House, also known as the House of Army.

Museum in Bitola represents a synthesis of Western and Oriental architecture. With its dimensions as a monumental building, it is a reflection of the architectural achievements of that time in these areas.
