Formative Assessment

Formative Assessment is a process used by teachers to monitor student learning and provide feedback.

Advantage- Encourages student growth.

Disadvantage- Can be time-consuming.

                 Summative Assessment 

Summative assessment evaluates student learning at the end of a course, period, or unit.

Advantage- Measures overall student achievement.

Disadvantage- Can cause high stress for students.

Performance-Based Assessment

Performance-based assessment requires students to apply knowledge through real-world task.

Advantages- Shows real world application of learning.

Disadvantages- Difficult to grade objectively.

                       Portfolio Assessment

A portfolio assessment collects student work over time to show growth.

Advantages- Demonstrates long term progress 

Disadvantages- Can be difficult to manage. 

               Standardized Assessment

Standardized assessments are test given and scored consistently. This is designed to compare performance across districts or schools.

Advantages- Can identify academic gaps between schools or districts.

Disadvantages- Leads to teaching to the test.

                         High-Stakes Test

High-stakes test are standardized assessments with consequences such as funding decisions, graduation, or promotion.

Advantages- Holds schools accountable.

Disadvantages- Creates pressure for teachers and students.

                                  Reflection

I chose this tool because it stood out to me the most. I liked how it digitally creates a book for me and all I have to do is add the components. I also enjoy how it is kid friendly, because it fits the vibe of my definitions. Throughout this assignment, I learned how diverse assessment methods are and how important each are. I realized that performance based assessments provide a better look at student learning. For example students are able to show what they learned, which gives a deeper look into which students are learning and which are not. Formative assessments also stood out to me because it helps guide and support students in real time. In the future, I do see myself using Story Jumper in classrooms. I think it would create an engaging way to teach or story tell. Its also a good tool for students to use for projects, assignments, or even a study tool.
