“Hi! My name is Celly, and I live inside your body. I’m a tiny cell, but I do a really big job!”
Meet Celly

“My home is like a busy city. Everyone has an important job! The nucleus is the boss, mitochondria make energy, and I’m one of the workers.”
“Our cell city buzzes like a beehive!” (Simile)

“One day, I started to grow. My membrane puffed up like a balloon ready to pop! (Simile)”
“The nucleus shouted, ‘It’s time for mitosis!’ I didn’t know what that was, but it sounded exciting!”

“First, I copied all my chromosomes so the new cells would have the same information.
It was like making two identical recipe books! (Metaphor)”

“Then, all my chromosomes lined up in the middle.
They looked like dancers getting ready for a show! (Simile)”
“Suddenly, spindle fibers pulled them apart—zip!—one to each side. (Onomatopoeia)”

“When it was done, there were two brand new cells, just like me. We waved and said, ‘Hello, twins!’”

“That’s how mitosis helps us grow and heal! Whenever your body needs new cells, we get to work.”

“One day, I met my friend May, who lives in another part of the body. Her job was a little different.”

“May said, ‘I make special cells—eggs and sperm! My process is called meiosis.’”

“May copied her chromosomes too, but she whispered, ‘This time, something special will happen.’”
“Her chromosomes mixed together, twisting like colorful ribbons dancing at a party! (Simile)”
