Millie loved Saturdays. That was the day her and her dad walked to the town market. There were always bright tents, happy music, and the smell of fresh bread in the air.
But this Saturday was different...

As Millie and her dad entered the market, a shiny golden coin rolled to her feet. When she picked it up, the coin sparkled and spoke!

“Hello, Millie! I’m Penny the Math Coin. I need your help! The Math Market has lost its numbers!”
Millie gasped. Around her, the signs above the fruit stands were blank. The baker was scratching his head, and the toy seller looked worried.
“How can I help?” Millie asked bravely.
Penny twinkled. “You’ll need to solve some math puzzles to bring the numbers back. Ready?”
Millie nodded. “Let’s do this!”

Millie's first stop was Mr. Green’s apple stand. His baskets were full, but his sign was empty.

Millie counted on her fingers.
“Ten minus three equals seven! You have 7 apples left.”
Mr. Green said, “I had 10 apples, but I sold 3 to Mrs. Lee. Now I can’t remember how many I have left!”

As soon as she said it, the number 7 appeared in the air, glowing bright red. The apple sign now read “7 Apples for Sale!”

7 Apples for Sale!

“Thank you, Millie!” said Mr. Green.

Penny sparkled again. “One number down, more to go!”

Next, they visited the bakery. The baker sighed.
“I baked 12 cupcakes this morning. Then I made 4 more. How many do I have now?”
Millie grinned. “That’s an addition problem! Twelve plus four equals sixteen!”
Poof! The number 16 floated up and landed on her sign.

“16 Cupcakes—Fresh and Sweet!”
The baker clapped. “You saved my sales, young lady!”
Penny jingled. “You’re doing great, Millie!”

16 cupcakes - Fresh and Sweet!

A crowd of children stood sadly around the toy tent. The sign said nothing, and the toys were quiet.
The toy seller said, “I had 20 marbles, but 8 rolled away. How many are left?”

Millie thought carefully. “Twenty minus eight equals twelve. You have 12 marbles left.”
The marbles jingled happily as the number 12 appeared. The kids cheered and started playing.

At the next booth, Mrs. Patel was sorting carrots. “Oh dear,” she said. “I have 5 bags of carrots, and each bag holds 3 carrots. How many carrots is that?”

Millie smiled. “That’s multiplication! Five times three equals fifteen!”
Penny spun in the air, and the number 15 glowed orange like the carrots.
Mrs. Patel beamed. “Thank you, little mathematician!”

The golden coin buzzed. “Only one puzzle left, Millie! The market clock lost its numbers. Without it, the market can’t close on time!”
