Buddy was a dog who loved to eat and play. One morning he was running through the yard and saw that there were lots of apples out in the yard. Buddy wanted to know how many of the apples there were. Then he remembered the math lessons that he had been taking.

Buddy looked at the apples and thought, "If I eat two apples and then I eat three more apples, then how many did I eat?" Buddy counted them, one, two, three, four, five. He figured out that if he ate three and then two it would be five because three plus two is five.

Buddy was very happy with himself and his tail was wagging. Then he crossed a garden. In the garden he counted three rows with four columns. He knew that he would have to use multiplication to figure out the sum of the carrots in the garden.

Lets do some math...
rows times colums
equals twelve total carrots

Buddy was once again happy that he was able to figure out the math that he and his teacher had been working on. He had already done well in addition and multiplication. He also knew that subtraction was the opposite of addition and division was the opposite of multiplication.

Buddy's friend Joe then showed up. "Hi Joe!" Buddy told him.

Joe had brought eight dog treats for the two of them to enjoy. Buddy knew that he and Joe would have to use division to figure out how many that they both would get.

Buddy knew to separate the eight pieces of dog treats into two separate rows. Two is what they would be dividing by since they were trying to only split it for the two of them.

When Buddy and Joe counted all of the pieces in the two rows they both got four pieces. They then realized that 8 divided by 2 is 4 because 4 is how many times 2 goes into 8.

Buddy and Joe both barked with happiness because they were able to do the division properly. Buddy had now done addition, multiplication and division during his day of math.

Buddy was starting to get tired after he ate all of his treats with Joe and decided it was time for him to go back to his home and take a nap.
