The morning sunlight spilled softly into Patchwork Hollow, turning dust motes into glittering stars. In the forgotten playroom, toys stirred awake as the day began—wind-up mice clicked their keys, a felt dragon stretched his wings, and blocks quietly stacked themselves into wobbly towers.
Then—
BOING!
A flash of shiny green zipped across the room.
BOING! BOING!
“Good morning, everybody!” shouted Bouncy, a bright green rubber ball with stretchy cartoon arms and endlessly springy energy. He bounced off a toy chest, ricocheted off a pillow, and launched himself into the air, landing upside-down in a laundry basket.
“Whoops!” he giggled, popping right back out. “Didn’t mean to do that! Or maybe I did!”
Bouncy loved mornings. He loved afternoons. He loved evenings. He loved everything that involved moving, jumping, rolling, flipping, or zooming. Standing still felt almost impossible.
From the center of the playroom, a warm golden glow shimmered. With a sparkle like sugar crystals in the sun, Shirousa and Kurousa hopped gently into view, followed by their Sugarbunny friends from Bunniesfield.
“We’ll surely succeed,” Shirousa said cheerfully, adjusting his pink bowtie.
Kurousa nodded. “Especially if we don’t break anything today.”
Behind them came the rest of the bunny twins—Momousa and Hanausa carrying flowers, Buchiusa and Mintusa chatting about new gelato flavors, and Latteusa and Cappuccinousa, the coffee-making twins, carefully balancing tiny cups.
Sophia peeked in from the doorway, smiling. “Okay, everyone,” she whispered, “today we’re helping the town prepare for the Spring Kindness Fair. That means treats, drinks, and… gentle fun.”
Bouncy froze mid-bounce.
“FUN?!” he shouted joyfully—and immediately bounced so high he got stuck on a hanging lampshade.
Latteusa blinked. “Ah… maybe too much fun?”
Sophia clapped her hands softly. “I was thinking Bouncy could help deliver coffee and pastries to the booths.”
Latteusa smiled kindly. “That’s perfect! We could use your energy.”
Cappuccinousa nodded. “But we’ll need to move carefully. Hot drinks need calm paws.”
Bouncy saluted with one stretchy arm. “Careful? Calm? You got it!”
The moment he hopped onto the delivery tray—
BOING!
The cups wobbled.
BOING! BOING!
Latteusa quickly caught them with his ears. “Easy, friend.”
“Oh! Right! Slowing down!” Bouncy whispered… for about three seconds.
A wind-up duck waddled by.
“HI DUCK!” Bouncy shouted, bouncing after it.
The tray tipped. Cappuccinousa leapt forward, ears flying into the air, and caught the tray just in time. The coffee sloshed but didn’t spill.
Everyone froze.
Then Bouncy slowly deflated a tiny bit. “I… messed up, didn’t I?”
