Sophia hummed happily, carrying a tray of strawberry tarts to the table, when a sudden whirr-click echoed from the corner of the room.
“Who’s there?” Shirousa asked, tilting her head.
Out from behind a stack of books rolled a small, red robot with silver joints and chunky arms. Its black eyes blinked as glowing heart-shaped lights on its shoulders flickered.
“Hello!” the robot said, its voice friendly but firm. “I’m Handy! I… I’m here to help!”
The Sugarbunnies exchanged curious looks.
“Handy?” Kurousa repeated. “You’re not one of the toys we know… are you real?”
“I’m real enough,” Handy said, puffing up his square chest proudly. “I’m strong, dependable, and I love helping out wherever I can!”
Momousa hopped forward. “Do you need any help getting around? You look… a little complicated!”
Handy’s eyes dimmed slightly. “I… I usually do everything myself. But… maybe I could use a little teamwork.”
Just then, two bunnies stepped forward together: Aomimiusa, with his snowy white fur and blue ears, and Aousa, his twin brother with cobalt fur.
“We can help you!” Aomimiusa said brightly. “We make glass art. Handy, maybe you could assist us with our tools?”
Handy’s eyes lit up. “Tools! Perfect! Let’s get started!”
The trio headed to the small sunroom, where Aomimiusa and Aousa had set up a glass-blowing station. Tiny furnaces glimmered, and colorful molten glass swirled in pots, ready to be shaped.
“I… I don’t know glass,” Handy admitted, scratching the back of his head with one bulky arm. “I can lift heavy things, turn gears, wind springs… but glass?”
Aousa chuckled. “That’s okay! You don’t need to know yet. We’ll teach you.”
The plan was simple: Aomimiusa and Aousa would shape delicate glass ornaments while Handy transported hot tools and molded shapes carefully for them. But as the first attempt began, Handy got a little too eager.
“I can do it myself!” Handy exclaimed, trying to lift a furnace pot alone. But the pot slipped, and a small puddle of molten glass spilled dangerously close to the floor.
“Handy!” Aomimiusa yelled. “Careful!”
Handy froze, his heart-shaped lights flickering nervously. “I… I wanted to help, not make a mess…”
Aousa put a gentle paw on Handy’s arm. “It’s okay. You don’t have to do everything alone. That’s what teamwork is for. We work together, not by yourself.”
Handy’s shoulders slumped. “I guess… I got carried away.”
“Here,” Aomimiusa said, picking up a small, glowing shard of cooled glass. “Why don’t you try just carrying the little pieces for us? You’re strong, and that’s perfect for you!”
Handy’s lights brightened again. “Really? I can do that?”
“Of course!” Aousa smiled. “You’re Handy—handy in every sense!”
