Finding Joy in the Chaos
By: Aubrey Van Wyk
Everyday, my morning starts in my room. My mom flickers the lights on as she yells, “rise and shine Brielle, my darling. God woke you up today for a purpose!” As the light shines, I sit up and stretch, while I look at my bed-head in the mirror.

In the morning, my mom wakes up in a good mood, until something bad happens. Today was not the day to mess around with my mom. I walked downstairs, barely awake, to my mom yelling at my little brother, Junior. Junior isn’t even ready for school yet and my mom burnt my breakfast.

With nothing but disaster occurring, I knew I had to step up. “Mom, go help Junior get ready. I will make breakfast, get lunches packed, and clean up this mess,” I announced. “Thanks darling,” she replied. The moods of everyone's morning had been flipped around.

Quickly after I cleaned the mess in the kitchen, I darted for Juniors coat. My mom was already late for work, so I knew we were taking the bus. I didn’t want anymore chaos to occur.

We finally made it to school, but all I can hear is the chomping of people chewing gum and the mean kids gossiping about Sarah, a girl that did nothing wrong. This day needed to be fixed and I knew I needed to step up.

She’s so weird bro.

I couldn’t really do anything about people chomping their gum. But I could stand up for Sarah somehow. “Guys, Sarah didn’t do anything wrong. Maybe she doesn’t have the ability to do the things you think she needs to fix.” I explained, “You never know what people could be going through, love like Jesus does.” When I got done talking they all agreed and apologized to my new friend, Sarah.

Sarah and I were now friends because I thought about the outcome of bullying, which isn’t cool.

BFFS
As I walked into science class, I was so ready for my big test. Last night I studied early so I wouldn’t fail.

“I got an A!” I told my friends as we were waiting in the lunch line.

I got an A!
I was so caught up on my science test that I didn’t even remember to tighten the lid on my water bottle. My water was everywhere. In my head I thought to myself, “I’m a mess and I don’t do anything right. I’m so irresponsible. This is the worst day ever.” Then I thought, “Some people don’t even own a water bottle. I need to be appreciative of what I have. It’s just one mistake. I will fix it next time.”

My day goes on and now I’m about to start my volleyball game. Everyone’s anxious because the team we are going against beat us last time. My team needs to stay positive and have fun in the moment.

We got this!!!

I arrive home and it’s now time to go to bed. I have a plan tomorrow to make it go even smoother. “Goodnight mom, goodnight Junior!” I yell from my bedroom.

Good Night!!!!!!
