Hi, my name is Molly Thomas, and I experienced the Runaway Scrape during the Texas Revolution. Here is my story of what happened and how it affected my life.  

My family and I lived in a small town in East Texas with great people. I loved my home and all my friends that I made here. 

During this time, Texas was under Mexican rule and, in 1829, Mexico abolished slavery. We Texans did not follow this law.   

We are not listening to you, Mexico!

No more slavery, Texas!

Because Texas did not want to follow this law, it caused a conflict between Texas and Mexico. The Texas Revolution began with the Battle of Gonzales.

Texas now declares Independence from Mexico, and the Mexican army, led by Antonio López de Santa Anna, and the Texas army, led by Sam Houston, are in constant battles. 

We Texas, declare Independence from Mexico!

We won!

The Battle of the Alamo took place from February 23 to March 6, 1836. The Mexican Army defeated the Texas Army. 

After the loss at the Alamo, everyone in East Texas began to panic. We knew Santa Anna and the Mexican Army were on their way.

I don't want to leave, but I am scared. 

My family and I only packed a few things, and we left our home and our town.

We weren't the only ones on the run; almost our whole town had begun to flee toward Louisiana.
