If this world is so full of untameable sin, why would someone die to save our coal black souls?
Who would?
2
A man unlike any other took up a symbol of his impending doom, the sin of the world, and carried it upon his shoulders so that we may not carry our own. The soldiers mocked and ridiculed him while we spat at his feet. A holy image cast down into darkness.
3
He cried out in agony when they pierced his hands, and he groaned in grievance when they stapled his feet. They filleted him like a fish, then hung him suspended on a broken tree. We despised and cursed him with our tongues.
We demanded his blood be spilt.
4
The Roman soldiers casted dice to rob him of his modesty. His clothes were removed and gambled upon.
In this, scripture was fulfilled.
"They divided my clothes among them,
and cast lots for my garment."
John 19: 24 (NIV)
We dehumanized him before his mother.
5
Above his head, beyond the thorned crown, lay the notice that Pilate had prepared for this man. Hung like he who bled below it spoke to all nations that could read it's tongue. Aramaic, Latin and Greek decent read in silence the chiseled message.
It read:
Jesus Of Nazareth, The King Of The Jews
6
The Pharisees became enraged at the wooden plaque hanging above the accused on the cross. They demanded it be redone due to the nature of the wording, The King of The Jews.
Pilate cast down their opinions and demonstrated his power by keeping the words that stung the Pharisees so much.
7
At the foot of the wooden beast who held a man suspended stood a woman who cried out in horror, but could do nothing.
Beside her was a disciple of the crucified and he wept as the falsely charged asked him to take care of this woman....
His mother.
8
Knowing what had to be done was finished, the condemned gritted out a plea for a drink.........
The Roman guards placed a molded sponge, used to clean chamber pots, on a staff to hold the dirt of men to his lips.
The cruelty that humanity showed had no equal...
Yet he loved us still.
