did not come easily to Alexander Graham Bell.
As a child, Alexander had always enjoyed science. He did not do too well in school, though.

Although his schoolwork was poor, his mind was very active. One day, Alexander, was playing at a flour mill with a friend. He noticed that the work being done there could be done much more efficiently.

So, at only twelve years old, Alexander built a machine for the flour mill workers. The machine that he built helped the workers for several years to come.

That machine was the first of many inventions that Alexander would build.

Eleven years later, Alexander is now twenty-three. Unfortunately, both of his younger brothers passed away from Tuberculosis. Alexander's parents were worried that Alexander would become ill and pass away as well, since he was their only child still with them.

Alexander was twenty-five when he opened a whole entire school! The School of Vocal Physiology and Mechanics of Speech located in Boston, Massachusetts. Here, he attempted to teach deaf people to speak.

Now, at the age of twenty-six, without a university degree, he became Professor of Vocal Physiology and Elocution at the Boston University School of Oratory.

Alexander's mother went deaf and his father had developed a method of teaching deaf people to speak, which Alexander taught at his school.
