Aussie Nibbles
Where's Sunday?
Sal loves her puppy, Sunday.
But one day, after a trip to the beach,
The very word thing happens.
Sunday is missing.

Chapter One
My puppy's name is Sunday because that was the day Dad gave her to me. Her collar is red and she has a tag with her name on it, and our phone number. I've had Sunday for three months now. She follows me around and always wants to play. jumps all over me and licks my face. Mum says that Sunday thinks I'm a puppy too. Dad says it's my job to train her because she belongs to me. I'm teaching her to sit, to come and to stay. She isn't very good at any of these things, but she's learning. Everyone in my family loves Sundays, but I love her best of all.
Chapter Two
Last Weekend we went to the beach. The beach is Sunday's favorite place. She runs and runs and runs. We have races together. When we went swimming Sunday barked at the waves. My little brother Toby Thought that was funny. He likes the water. He runs straight in. After the beach we had a milkshake. 'I Want a blue one, I want a blue one,' said Toby. The lady making the milkshakes smiled at him and made him an extra large and extra blue one with sprinkles on top. I had a chocolate milkshake-my favorite. Sunday had water in a bowl. I stuck my fingers in my milkshake and then let her lick off
the ice cream. 'Don't do that, Sal,' said Mum. 'It's not
good for her.' But I liked the way her tongue tickled my fingers. in the car on the way home, we were all tired and sandy. Sunday fell asleep in her basket, which is right behind my bother's seat. I read my book in the car it was a very good book. When I am reading a very good book I sometimes forget everything else around me.
Chapter Three
'I' ve got a sore tummy,' said Toby. 'Your milkshake was too big,' I told him, 'and you drank it too fast.' Mum looked around. 'are you okay?' she asked. Toby nodded. Then he said, 'I feel sick.' 'He looks a little green,' Mum told my dad. Mum was right. Toby's face was the colour of green chewing gum. Mum looked at him again. Then she said, 'I think he's going to be ...
Dad quickly swung the car around and stopped on a side road. My little brother jumped out and threw up in the bushes. Mum got out too. I turned the other way and shut my eyes. If I look When people are being sick, I think that I' m going to be sick as well.
Mum cleaned Toby up and he climbed back into the car. We drove on along the freeway and I went back to reading my book. After a while Toby fell asleep. It is a long way home.
Chapter Four
When we were almost at the end of the freeway, my mum said, 'Sunday's very quiet.' I stopped reading my book and looked over to the back of the car. Sunday's basket was empty. My book dropped from my hands. 'Sunday', I called. I looked all around. I knelt on the back seat and pushed away the towels and the buckets and the beach bag. Sunday!' But I knew it was silly to call her. She wouldn't come because she wasn't there. Dad was slowing down the car. 'Sunday's not in the back,' I said. Dad stopped the car and we all just sat there. Nobody said anything. I looked at my mum. Where's Sunday gone?'
Chapter Five
I asked.
My mum got out of the car and walked around to the back. She opened the rear door and moved everything around like I had done. She moved the towels and the buckets and spade. Then she closed the door again - slam!
that was when I know What happened. 'When you opened Toby's door and he got out to throw up, Sunday must have got out too,' I shouted. We had driven off without her!
Suddenly I felt hot and sick. I look at the trees and the dusty paddocks and all the cars whizzing by. They were
going very fast. Mum got back in the car, and looked at Dad. It was a worried a Worried Look. 'Mum, we have to find Sunday!' I said. 'We have to go back and look for her!' I knelt on my seat with my seatbelt twisted. Dad turned the car around. I felt my tummy going around, too. We drove back to where we had stopped for Toby to be sick. It took a long time, even though we were going fast. Dad and Mum and I got out. We called, 'Sunday!
Sunday!
Dad climbed over the fence and walked into the paddock beside the freeway. The cars whizzed past, close
and fast and loud. They
scared me.
The paddocks went on and on forever.Sunday like to run. She would have run a long way by now.
Chapter Six
We sat there in the car by the side of the road. My tummy was going around even more because I could tell
that my parents didn't know what to do. Sunday was lost, and they didn't know how to find her. I started to cry, and then Toby work up. He started to cry as well. 'We have to go home,' said my dad. 'Maybe someone will find Sunday and ring our number on her collar.' 'But there aren't any people out here,' I cried. 'Who will find her?' 'There might be houses nearby, Sal,' said Dad. but I don't think he believed What he was saying. I looked at Sunday's empty basket. I held my own hands tight. "Oh Sunday,' I said in my in my mind, 'where are you?'
