" I  don't want to go today, I don't feel good." Jimmy replied. "Do you have a fever ?" Mother came over and touched his forehead. It was cool. "Are you sick in your tummy?"  " Yes, " Jimmy lied. "Well if you are I will get you some medicine.  Jimmy remembered what  that medicine tasted like. "Well I think I feel better  now." "Ok you better hurry and get ready for school before the bus gets here. I will fix you a lunch to take to school."  Jimmy decided that he would go and then  when he got there he would not go to school.

"Jimmy, it is time to get up and get ready for school." Mother came into the room

When Jimmy got on the school bus he saw his friend Mike sitting by him self. "Hey Mike, May I sit with you?" "Of course, I don't feel much like going to school today." "I don't either. Why don't we play hookie today? "That would be nice but how would we do that?" "I have a plan." "Oh what is it?" When we get there we will sneak out to the play ground and when the bell rings everyone will be going in and not paying attention to us  and we run the other way real fast.  Then when it is time for the bus to take us home

we will be back and get onto the school bus." 

 When they arrived at school they ran back and hid behind some trees. They thought they made a clean get away but some one was watching. "What are we going to do now?" Mike asked.  "We'll go fishing." "we  don't have any poles or bait. "How will we do that?"  "We'll make poles from tree branches and we can dig up worms with a stick and I have some lines in my pocket. "I have some paper clips in mine and we can make hooks with them."Mike offered.  "Ok lets go." They hurried to a creek that was near by and fixed up their poles.

Mike and Jimmy were having a great time they even caught a couple of fish. Mean while back at school Mary Ann told the teacher what she saw.

When Miss Burgess heard that she telephoned both Jimmy's mother and Mike's too.  "Thank you for tellilng me about it Mary Ann, but don't say anything to the rest of the class. Now go take your seat and we will go on with our lessons."  Jimmy and Mike were having a great time and then they decided they better get back to the school so they could catch the bus back home. But when they got back to the school  there was a surprise waiting for them. Can you guess what it is?
