Because of European colonization many African natives migrated eastward, unknowingly carrying diseases to the East Africans, who were not immune.

Ethiopia was one of the only unaffected countries in Africa during the age of New Imperialism.

France was one of the major European powers dominating areas in Africa.

is for Great Britain

Great Britian was the most powerful country in the world at the time. They also had a large influence in South Africa.

is for Hong Kong

Hong Kong was given to Britain after China was forced to sign the treaty of Najing.

is for Imperialism

Imperialism is defined as "a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force."

is for Jewels

Africa experienced an influx of people mining for diamonds during the "Diamond Rush"

is for Kipling

Rudyard Kipling was the one who coined the term "White Man's Burden" in order to justify imperialism.

is for Livingstone

Livingstone was a missionary who traveled to central Africa with a group of Africans in 1860.


is for Meiji Revolution

The Meiji Revolution was an event that restored practical imperial rule to the Empire of Japan in 1868 under Emperor Meiji.
is for Nationalism

Chinese and African pride for their countries is what fueled their rebellions.

is for Opium

Britain had traded China opium, to which the Chinese became addicted. This eventually led to the opium wars.

is for Panema Canal

The Panama Canal was located in Panama, but the U.S. had paid to build and control it, eventually granting American rights to the citizens.
